    Analysis: November 8, 2014 crash of N2152T

This accident was previously discussed in these two threads, but only with speculation as there was never a follow-up after the final report came out: https://pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/172-down-in-va-1-dead-1-survived.76573/...

    Century 2000 question - NAV/HDG (Answered. Nevermind.)

Does anyone have enough experience with the Century 2000 to answer the following: If the autopilot is on and engaged in NAV mode, then it is disconnected (either via the off button or the disconnect switch on the yoke), does the NAV stay illuminated or does it go back to HDG? edit: Was able to...

Science Magazine - "Masks effectively limit the probability of SARS-CoV-2 transmission"

https://science.sciencemag.org/content/early/2021/05/19/science.abg6296 Abstract Airborne transmission by droplets and aerosols is important for the spread of viruses. Face masks are a well-established preventive measure, but their effectiveness for mitigating SARS-CoV-2 transmission is still...

COVID-19: Masks and ventilation more effective than social distancing

Estimating COVID-19 exposure in a classroom setting: A comparison between mathematical and numerical models featured Physics of Fluids 33, 021904 (2021); https://doi.org/10.1063/5.0040755 "The risk from airborne SARS-CoV-2 exposure does not appear to be strongly correlated with the distance...

Finding a shop to install non-TSO equip.

It's been discussed at length here that most equipment (e.g., comm radios, etc.) for aircraft used in Part 91 don't really need to be TSO'd. However I haven't had any luck finding someone willing to install and sign off on such equipment. Anyone else?

AOPA gives members free access to flight planner

Great job AOPA, what a fantastic benefit—your members ought to be very pleased that you made this "new" tool "available" to them. Actually they're not "giving" members anything so much as taking it away from everyone else. Since it used to be free for, like, everyone...

Multiengine safety pilot available - Virginia

Need a few multiengine hours. I wanted to see if any multi owners could use some practice with a safety pilot (I'll help pay for fuel) OR if anyone with access to an airplane wants to split time that needs it. I'm a CP ASEL/AMEL, CFI/CFII but no MEI. The Richmond, Charlottesville, Hampton...

Proper way to connect these back together?

Attempting to add a vintage glideslope receiver to my vintage avionics package. Can these wires just be spliced back together and is there a particular technique that has to be followed?

    Breaking in one new cylinder

If one cylinder is replaced in 182, what is recommended for break-in? Should break-in oil (i.e. straight mineral) be used or is it okay to use the ashless dispersant that is normally used (W100 in this case)? Thanks

Adding basic IFR avionics to a C150

I have a Cessna 150 that's minimally equipped. The radio rack is original from 1975 except that the sole NAV/COMM has been replaced by an MX300. It also has an ADF, and, strangely, marker beacons but no glideslope. Also has a 4-pound paperweight aka LORAN. I would like to add enough equipment...

Want To Buy Functional, older avionics

I'm trying to add some capability to a C150, but it doesn't make sense to spend $10k+ on avionics and installation labor in an airplane that's only worth a little more than that. So I'm looking for a good deal on any of the following or similar avionics, either removed in working condition or at...

    Botched NTSB report

A recent AOPA ASF video highlighted the following accident: https://www.ntsb.gov/_layouts/ntsb.aviation/brief.aspx?ev_id=20160118X02647&key=1 A Cessna 152 can fly a lot longer than 3.1 hours. The NTSB did not read the POH correctly. See attached image. The 3.1 hours includes an allowance for...

    LOCalizer-only approach with GS intercept?

http://155.178.201.160/d-tpp/1702/05160L10.PDF Why does this plate for a localizer-only approach have a lightning bolt symbol at the FAF when there is no glideslope?

    Cessna 150 oil viscosities

I'm finding a lot of conflicting advice when it comes to proper oil grades. The Cessna 150 POH specifies SAE40 (e.g. Aeroshell W80) with ambient temperatures above 40°F. Yet, many owners I've talked to are using Aeroshell W100 which is SAE50. Further confusion comes from the fact that the...

    high performance endorsement (rant)

I had to get one in order to fly a 182. It was no harder to fly than a Cutlass or Arrow and was the most pointless waste of money ever. They ought to waive it for commercial pilots.
