Neither of my permanent duty stations in the Air Force had golf courses, and it was my impression that this was an exception to the rule. Although I'm not a golfer (but I did see "Caddy Shack), one of the most beautiful golf courses I've ever seen was the one at Homestead AFB ... Hurricane Andrew ended that. When it came to USAF infrastructure, the bar always came first ... all things are possible after a couple of decent drinks.

I’m not a golfer either, but I’d say the nicest AF golf course and club house I have seen is in Misawa, JP.

Although Kadena has a nice club house reaturant as well, just prepare to climb some stairs to get there.

Was stationed on Kadena for 5 years. #10 was a cool drive between two mountains with a blind landing. Ring the cowbell after your second shot to let the guys on the tee know it’s safe to hit.

played Misawa a few times when I was TDY there.

I joined the Air Force so as Benjamin Buford Blue so eloquently said, “So I didn’t have to sleep with my head in the mud.”

What's to hate? Everybody likes chocolate.

Nope, do not like it; never have really. Daughter's ex-boyfriend is even allergic to it; semi adopted son's wife is also allergic to chocolate.

Hater’s gonna hate ;)

I had a flight hyd system failure over Iraq on a Southern Watch mission and diverted into Al Jabar circa 98. It was a wreck with virtually none of the damage done during Desert Storm having been repaired. Took a field trap they dearmed us and then towed us over to a sun shelter. They briefed us about the IED/Missile shelters and procedures, told us to keep our sidearms with us, not to walk off any marked area due to mines and "you're here on a good night, Steak and King Crab tonight". Ah, the USAF, suffering the whole way

Is the son semi adopted of the wife?

Son's best friend. He calls me dad, lived with us for a couple years and was estranged from his parents for a number of years for dating across ethnic/racial boundaries before marrying interracial.

If I remember correctly, in the documentary The Cold Blue (on HBO Max), it was mentioned that during WW2, the Army Air Forces lost more men on bombing missions over Europe than the Marines did in the entire war. (Of course, the survival rate improved once they got long-range escorts with the introduction of the Mustang.)

Regarding golf…

What makes golf and sex the same?

You don’t have to be very good at either to really enjoy it

Nam Phong. Our showers were dipping our helmet into a 55 gallon drum of water. Or waiting for the daily afternoon thunder storm. Grab a bar of soap, get naked and shower in the rain. But we had to quit doing that. C9 landed one day with the USO show. The CO was not amused that we were doing that next to the runway.

Must have been birthday night. Every month when I was deployed to Kirkuk Iraq they would make steak and king crab for those who had a birthday that month. It wasn’t every day and you still had to eat with plastic utensils. :)
