Do they really sell enough watches to sponsor a jet team, air races, etc? Or is there another revenue stream I'm missing?

I couldn't imagine spending over $100.00 on a watch much less 5K+

There's a lot of watch nuts around the world. I'd say they do just fine.

Even at $5k a piece though... have to pay retailer, channel, import/export, staff, R&D, materials, facilities, overhead, etc. Seems like it doesn't leave much left over to sponsor seven L-39s and all the other stuff they do.

But maybe they do sell that many watches.....

Since college I haven't had a watch that I paid less than 2k for, but 5k is the top for me.

Not a breitling guy, more show than go, and all their movements are basically slightly tweaked Valjoux stuff, same motor my current O&W has.

When you're priced near the same as a Omega, it's not even a competition when you can get a speedy for the same price, which is also a tweaked Val, still much more of a pro watch, especially the manual moon version. Heck I'd get a marathon CSAR before a breitling

But yeah, I think breitling has more than enough funding to toss their name on the side of a few planes.

go sit at a poker table in a casino and you'll see the type of people that wear breitlings. they're generally too big for me but some of them look aight.

Wholesale is about 42%-50% off depending on the piece, there's a TON of money in timepieces.

Between the top makers, I'd choose a Rolex over any of them. As eman said, the Breitling's are too big for my wrist.

I like the large faced watches. I've always wanted a Breitling but always had other priorities in watches. I have a Rolex, a Bell&Ross, a U-boat, and Omega. Some day I'll own a Breitling. By the way, always buy second hand. Retail is for suckers.

Only thing I buy new is my food

Boy I can think of a lot better things to spend 5k on than a watch...gotta have some serious disposable income to do that I guess.

I spent mine on primary training instead of a watch. it's hard to 'splain to people who don't have the watch itch but yeah, I understand your point.

Actually I hear that if you wear a Breitling while flying it increases your piloting skills by 72.4%...impressive

I personally like IWC better. The Breitlings are too flashy / borderline gaudy for me. They seem to fit with a bottle of Cris and 22" rims if you know what I'm sayin' ....

But I'm amazed at the Jet Team sponsorship. I wonder what kind of numbers they have. I guess 2 thousand pieces at 5k is 10M. Still with the operational costs involved (planes and business).... I just don't know.

The pilot with the biggest watch, you know, is the better pilot.....

Rolex annual revenue is something like $5,000,000,000. Don't know about Breitling, but even if it's half of that... Still, I doubt 100% of the costs of the jet team are coming out of Breitling's pocket.

What's funny is that my $300 Samsung Gear S2 "watch" can perfectly emulate a Rolex, Breitling, Omega, or any other watch on the planet -- AND it's a cell phone.

And a GPS. And a music player. And a compass, flashlight, timer, news reader, text messager, health tracker...

Yeah... but can it give you the time of day..???

Who the eff wears a watch anymore? Seriously. Do,som people watching. Literally. It's rare to see a wrist watch anymore, cept in the hood where they gots fake ass Fo-lex stuff they got at the swap meet or from the rent-A-wheel shop.

My watch died early this summer. Now I just use the cell phone for time instead.

I think you mean it can display a picture that looks like the face of a Rolex. That's not the same thing as emulating a Rolex.

The pilot with the biggest watch, you know, is the better pilot.....
And here's the ultimate expression of that:
..it's nine minutes long, but has some good flying in it.

"You're not a pilot...you're someone who wears a nifty uniform and operates a computer...."

Breitling annual revenue is around $350m if I'm not mistaken. They spend around $45m per year on advertising, being the second largest watch advertiser, after Rolex who spends a bit over $50m (on their $5b revenue).

I just don't understand why you would need such an expensive watch. My $100.00 Timex tells time just as good. It's lasted 10 years and if I loose it I wouldn't feel the need to file an insurance claim.

From my perspective and that of the people that I'm friends with that have similar watches, it's appreciation for the history, the engineering, the attention to detail, etc. I don't expect people to understand why I spend $10k-$20k on a watch.

It's not about the time, it's about the bling. A precision made, wrist wearable sundial made out of platinum and gold would have about the same functionality. Just don't whack yourself in the forehead with it.

My $10,000 rolex tells time worse than your timex. But it's a rolex and I bought it to signify a special moment in my life. Timex doesn't really do that the same way.

That ad is freakin' INCREDIBLE.

Why haven't I seen it before?

Wow you guys are poor I spend 100K on a watch every few years. Jeez...noobs.

That is a pretty cool video. The flying scenes were pretty good. And Malkovich is... well... Malkovich.

Bremont offers a watch commemorating a very special school I was fortunate to attend. My class opted for the 'Image Watches' version with our class logo on the face ordered from the back of some airline rag. Something like $15 apiece with the first sample free, but I wouldn't trade it for the Bremont version AND a Rolex. :D

Nauga,
who says, "Where's the gouge, dude?"

I don't have any time in a Spitfire, so I guess I don't deserve the watch.
I am type rated in the P-51D. What can I get for that?

Rolex/Omega/Tag/anything else you can buy in a mall, do not have enough panty-dropability for the discriminating 172 driver (M model or newer, mind you). I will only calculate my inbound legs on a Patek Philippe.

Really mesmerizing to watch....(see what I did there?)

Love Patek, was a tough call between picking up a 5164A and my current AP. Although now that I'm getting divorced it'll be much easier to justify it to myself lol
