iOS 10

Ask me in about 20 minutes when it is done downloading(hotel WiFi)

Haven't switched yet.

Pretty much the same, they changed messaging and the unlock process but it seems a bit like change for changes sake.

Yea I like the new messaging. Debating on whether or not I want to get the iPhone 7. I may just wait another year until my contract is up.

I think it's sad that this is the Big TEN and all we get is an iMessage update

Agree with X3 on waiting for FF. And from what I have read, have no burning desire to go out and get a -7.

iTunes and Apple Music have new and better controls. There's an added directory for downloaded music. That's appreciated as I listen a lot. I like the messaging changes. And the fingerprint reader seems to work better. Little improvements are still improvements. And they didn't cost me a cent.

Foreflight and Garmin Pilot seem to work just fine.

I saw a headline yesterday morning that indicated there are significant glitches. Didn't read the article so.......fwiw......which is very little.....

Been seeing a lot of reports of the update bricking phones...be sure you backup before you start the update and don't do it as your are running out the door to a critical meeting!

For me, likely going to do what is common sense each September... don't go with x.0 update... wait until for the x.1

You folks might remember past years when 8.0 and/or 9.0 had some major issues when it first went live... and the quick scramble to publish a patch.

Works great on my iPhone 6+ and two iPad minis. Most people that have problems create their own. Use a good wifi connection and have the phone plugged in. Leave it alone while it updates.

What I read, the problems were associated with over the air downloads.

Cheers

I updated my phone, 6+, with no problems. They've made changes to the photo app also. Will wait on upgrading the iPad until FF gives to go ahead. FF does seem to work okay on the phone.

Well, hopefully it'll fix the waggy touch screen that began acting up when I installed 9.x.x on my iPad Air.

Yah, you're a hater. Nobody cares. The new update is great. It's nice to change things up a little. The music improvements are great.

Actually we own five iOS devices and four operable and two "too old to use" OSX devices and *bought* the original OSX Beta.

They're just losing their edge under Cook.

Once they toss his ass and find someone with some sort of vision, any vision, other than cosmetic and fashion changes, they'll innovate again. Could be a very long time.

They also are a disaster of incongruity lately. Update Messages on iOS and don't update it on the desktop to match... Brilliant.

Problem with all of the above is that they cost more than their competitors, who've caught up. That's not a good trend line.

They're at the "making it up with volume" phase of the business now. Which works for a while.

It's a pretty poor hardware and software upgrade pairing for Christmas season. If Samsung didn't have the recall right now, Apple would be toast in holiday sales. But it's only September and they're fixing it already.

The "bricking" issue has been fixed. Apple acknowledged this was an issue for the first hour or so the update was available.

I don't pretend to know or care about Apple's business. I just like their products. I have my hands full with my own business. When I get a spare moment I tune in here to talk airplanes and take my mind off of my daily reality. So goes that plan!

Probably best not to click on a thread titled "iOS 10" then? ;)

Technically this post is in the wrong sub-forum, but unlike some self-appointed rules cops here, I really don't care.

Just waitin' on Foreflight to sound the "all clear"... But in no rush to upgrade. Can't find any compelling reason to, really. Almost can't believe they slapped a major version number on it.

It does seem a bit snappier to me than 9.x. Anyone else?

I don't notice any speed difference with iOS10 on my two year old 6+. Most of the features I will use are relatively minor. I like the shortcut to "close all tabs" in Safari.

The changes to iMessaging are fun. Nothing like having pornographic images pulled up for your kids because they didn't vet the gif/image search function. Lol. I own a 6 for work, and I get annoyed with it's failures/shortcomings much more often than I did with my personal Galaxy S2. I just don't feel like Apple is worth the premium on 95% of its product lines. I hate all of their proprietary crap. To each their own I suppose.

All technology follows an "S" curve. Very incremental at the start (Those huge brick mobile phones), then rapid change and large steps in capability (android and iOS), then slow steps of slight change, (iPhone 7). IMnsHO, Mobile phones have reached the last stage and you'll just see only small increments in mobile phones, regardless of manufacturer, Apple, Samsung, Whoever. Same thing as airplanes, Wright Bros and others, then WWI, WWII and the jet age and now 737's and 320's forever.

Of course it might be Putt's Law in action.
  • Putt's Law: "Technology is dominated by two types of people: those who understand what they do not manage and those who manage what they do not understand."
I personally think it is the former.

Cheers

WARNING !!

I attempted to update my iPhone 6+ today to iOS 10 and got the dreaded "stuck in recovery mode".
My iPhone is locked up. This was an over the air download. I've plenty of memory & I'm attempting to recover the phone using iTunes.

Recommend to maybe stay away from this for a while longer, or use iTunes to update to iOS 10?

Just noticed how pasting a hyperlink in iMessage sends a preview of the webpage.. even to non-iMessage recipients

I updated via iTunes but haven't tried out the features yet. The update seemed to work OK, though. I had a moment of worry when iTunes asked me to enter my passcode, but the phone was displaying the Apple logo and nothing else. Pushing the home button took me to the login screen.

I see one feature is that it wakes up for a few seconds when you pick it up.

WingX cleared it for use this morning P, so I'll be installing tonight

Installed last night on my iPhone 5. No problems with update or useage today.

Only real trip up was remembering to press the button vs. swipe to unlock. Still discovering the other changes.

Soon as I get back home where I have more bandwidth. I saw that on their site this morning., which is what I was waiting for. :)

iPad and iPhone done, WX seems fine so far on both devices.

Yea I keep on swiping to unlock too. I'll remember to hit the home button eventually.
