    Death grip and students

I've read fatal accident reports in the NTSB about petite instructors unable to recover from a student control lock so I know this is serious. Out of the CFI's here, how many times have you had to physically extract the student from the controls?

    spins - eeeeeeeeeeeee!

Hi Grant, Thanks for pointing that out. I looked up the article you are talking about and it is a good one but wasn't the one I was thinking of. And then I looked farther back into my AOPA FT archive and found the one I was thinking of. April 2005 Page 24 and Page 62.

    Telescopes (NA)

If I can find room in the plane, I can bring one down to Gastons... that place pretty dark at night? Jun 6th is close to the new moon.

    Telescopes (NA)

Good choice, since John Dobson, for whom the Dobsonian is named after is a member of the San Francisco Sidewalk Astronomers. The guy is a monk, and learned how to build cost minimal telescopes for the public to use on the sidewalks of SFO. It looks like the plans are good overview of how to lay...

    Telescopes (NA)

Here's my biased pitch: Take that money and build yourself something even bigger. A reflector with a Dobsonian mount can be easily built in a couple weekends with stuff you order online (primary and secondary mirror, secondary mirror holder, eye piece focuser, and eyepeice) and at the hardware...

    spins - eeeeeeeeeeeee!

Any one know which recent AOPA Flight Training Magazine issue had a article about Bill Kershner and spins? I think the article was entitled "Spin Doctor" and it was about 2 years ago but I can't find it in my collection. I am pretty sure he was on the cover too.

    spins - eeeeeeeeeeeee!

I did spin work yesterday morning to take care of my CFI 61.183(i)(1) sign off. Talk about alot of fun. 3 spins to the left, 3 spins to right, wish we could have done more just for fun. 2 turns and -1000 feet, pretty much everytime. You have to really try to get a 150 to spin. Full rudder and...

    Age 15 Student Pilots

I love a good thread regurgitation..... what if they are a few months or more from turning 16 and there is some concern they might have a disqualifying condition? Now that is probably a silly question since they can still consult with an AME before they get their medical but would be nice to do...

    Dr. Bruce--high blood pressure

Read up on FAR 67 (specifically 67.111 for the First Class medical cardiovascular criteria) though this one doesn't tell you the BP guidelines. I am pretty sure the FAA wants BP under 155/90 but every doctor will tell you to be at 120/80.

Entry from Cruising Airspeed to a Constant Airspeed Climbs

Correct, page 5-14. That is pretty much the only difference that I could tell, the partial panel issue. With full panel, I always have increased pitch first and then added power when airspeed dropped to the climbing airspeed as Tony mentioned. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing it wrong.

Entry from Cruising Airspeed to a Constant Airspeed Climbs

I have been browsing through the 2007 Instrument Flying Handbook and on page 5-14 they talk about climb entries: "To enter a constant airspeed climb from cruising airspeed, raise the miniature aircraft to the approximate nose-high indication for the predetermined climb speed.........Power may...
