Now that digital maps are freely downloadable from AeroNav has anyone heard of directly uploading these to the 700? Or possibly a new discounted subscription price model?

Give Paint.Net a try. It will open the .tif directly. From there you can select, crop, mark-up with text, and print. All within one application. Best of all it's free. I just landscape printed a Sectional swatch 40nm Wide(E-W) x 30nm Long (N-S) and it turned out awesome. Just to add that...

You can setup and enable the MAC address table. Not as convenient when visitors come over, but very good per device security.

I don't see why you wouldn't be permitted to use it for the FAA written. All it does is substitute a few manual steps. Quite elegantly, I might add.
