    Retired F-14s being shredded

L-39's are trainers. It's the same idea as the T-38 or the Navy's T-45 (advanced jet trainer), but not as powerful.

    Checklists

Where I come from "checklist discipline" is a HUGE deal, especially crew aircraft types (who use challenge and response). Alot of guys hook rides in pilot training for this reason. Often times it's because they forgot to pin their seat (not really sure why some dudes forget this, but it...

    First Solo!

Awesome, congrats! I still have my cut up shirt from when I solo'd. Feels good flying alone, doesn't it? In the Air Force we were thrown into a pool with our flight suits on after we solo'd.

Does anyone really hear you on the radio?

Excellent post, Capflyer. Since when is national defense a private business? Apples and oranges, dude. For the record we are doing more with less. Flying hours are being cut like it's going out of style. Therefore, we have less time to do what we need to do in the MOA to accomplish training...

Does anyone really hear you on the radio?

You could not be more wrong. We are always on frequency with a controlling agency in a MOA or on a low level route. After we report established in our section of the MOA (on UHF), we switch to a discrete frequency for our section of the MOA. You guys could all argue with me until you're blue...

    Solo flights idea

How about a short solo x-country to make up the time? Navigating and getting used to talking on the radios is excellent experience. If you need practice on some maneuvers then I'd suggest practicing those (assuming they're not dual only maneuvers).
