LA flight schools ( the good ones) probably worry about it, because they understand the added risk.. Its not far from the main land, but that water is deep and cold, and as has been mentioned the airport itself is a little quirky...just lots of things that you should prepare for and be aware...

A good flight school/CFI wont let you fly to Catalina for the first time on your own, there are a lot of factors to consider... Its a fun trip but be prepared for it, and if you are have a fun day...

I hear you... unfortunately with these guys to many little things always cropping up and some big ones as well... where there is smoke there is usually fire.... but perhaps a better choice of thread title..

Such a shame, thoughts and prayers to the families, but no one around Van Nuys airport is surprised. This flight school has quite the reputation around here..... All students make sure to do your due diligence before taking lessons...

KVNY and KWHP are your closest. I fly and rent from Vista at Whiteman using their G1000 C172..Great place, I've known the owner for years..I cant speak the strength of the instructors though. I met a couple and was not impressed, but they no longer instruct there. For my money you cannot beat...

Well he does aerobatics in his Christen Eagle on his days off...so who knows... As stated I used it purely for a visual reference to an area I had never been to..

Don't believe any one said it was faultless...But I found it a useful visual reference for when I flew into a busy "new to me" airport last week. We cant all be perfect, the link was sent to me by a good friend who fly's a 747-800 for a living.. He liked it but what could he possibly know...

I found this a couple of weeks, ago, good web site especially if flying into an unknown airport. I've used it a couple of times and found it very handy for visual reference points. Seems to be mostly SoCal at the moment ( which is fine for me :lol:), but looks like they are adding content...

First off I have never had that happen in either of the G1000 172's I fly.. My questions from the blurred pictures are as others have pointed out, why are you doing 47-50kts? Why in the engine RPM at exactly 1000, ( when I'm descending it never gets that low even with an idle power...

8 Ball is great for all the reasons you mention.....its just very tough to get into the club (ie no one leaves so no space) One of my good friends is a member and he loves it...Their planes are always need and tidy as I taxi past :wink2:
