Horizon Instruments gone out of business??

Hi guys, We spoke to a nice person there in Dec to have our tach reprogrammed, sent it on Feb 5, and now can’t reach anyone since then! We’ve left messages and contact us emails, but nobody picks up the phone, returns the calls or emails. Our club plane is grounded, with no end in sight. Any...

    406mhz ELT Installation with GPS

Thanks for the input everyone! Our ELT is similar to the one pictured - no way it'll deflect less than .1" with 100# - it's on the side wall of the luggage compartment. Time to make some phone calls.

    406mhz ELT Installation with GPS

Our club is going to have a 406mhz ELT installed in our C172K, which currently has a stand-alone 121.5 without a remote switch or remote antenna. I'm considering the ACK E-04 and the new Artex E435, which both take a GPS-in from our Garmin 430W. The manufacturers claim a 2.5 hour install time...

New LSA club in Connecticut now forming

Keith - I'll take you up on the Sonex try-out offer too! I was in KEEN when the Sonex/Waiex guys had their fly in. Neat planes.

New LSA club in Connecticut now forming

I'm not in the market (hmmm... taildragger would be fun), but more options are always good! Put the cub on skis for the winter time, and you've got a different plane that you can't rent anywhere else (besides KGBR). Can an LSA be aerobatic? I hope this works out for you.

Compounding Benefits with Pilots N Paws?

Ted, Sure, if you're able. I covered my long IFR X-C during a pilots n paws flight. We get plenty of flights in New England, but many fall through since the first leg or two from the South East is tough to fill...

C172K Share @ KHFD - CT Valley Flyers club

Hi guys -We've got an opening in Connecticut Valley Flyers. Share a great '69 C172K w/ 180hp constant speed conversion (climbs well) and WAAS Garmin 430. Plane flies about 200 hours a year, so there's great availability. Never a problem to reserve it for weekend trips. I'll double check...

    Great dining north of Boston?

Replying to my own post - we went to 7B3 (Hampton), great little (2300', but tall trees either end) grass strip, and the breakfast at the Airfield Café (http://www.theairfieldcafe.com/) was amazing. I had apple crepes, and my wife had gluten free French toast. Took the nephews flying for the...

    Great dining north of Boston?

We're visiting my 9 year old triplet nephews on Saturday (Stoneham, north of Boston, we'll probably fly in to Beverly, KBVY), and promised them a flight. On the way up Saturday morning, my wife and I were hoping to find a great restaurant for breakfast. Any places you guys would suggest? This...

Next up - Commercial and CFI

Hi guys, I just got my IFR rating (http://www.pilotsofamerica.com/forum/showthread.php?t=62165) and am planning to start the studying for my Commercial and CFI knowledge exams. I'll probably get the advanced ground instructor rating while I'm at it. Once that's done, I'll worry about finding...

    IFR journey & checkride experience

I was considering doing the PIC 10 day course, and use the IFR book by Peter Dogan (I thought it was great): http://www.amazon.com/Instrument-Training-Developed-Professional-Courses/dp/0916413268/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1376340251&sr=1-3 Jaybird - BobN had me mutilate my plastic...

    IFR journey & checkride experience

Thanks guys! Andrew-I wanted to do the oral and try to go for the practical back in June, but the DPE didn't want to deal with a pretty sure discontinuance, so we waited. Are you re-scheduled? Wait for that high pressure to come!

    IFR journey & checkride experience

Thanks for everyone’s support while I was working on the instrument rating – Bob Roseberry, my CFII; Andy Cooper, Safety Pilot & IFR mentor; Scott Ashton, CFI & mentor, and of course my wife who’s supported this from the start! The IFR journey started in December – Lots of reading (Dolgan’s...

    ipad or ipad mini?

Great discussion - Thanks guys! The mini + yokemount seems like the way to go. I'll definitely try to borrow one to try. Next question - Do I scratch the itch now on a 32mb refurb wifi+cellular, or wait for the fall for the next version? :) Andris
