Snorting his way across the USA
So I was leaving work yesterday on my Kawasaki Concours (yes, the one like Jesse has) and I'm on the freeway overpass bridge when I see this long haired white bearded old man in shorts, shirtless, hanging on the fence staring at the approaching traffic. Most likely a bum. I slow for the traffic merging on the freeway.

He turns around and sees me, and yells "Buy a Harley!" Haha very funny old man. No problem, I can take it, but I can dish it out too. I'm stopped in the lane at the time, so I point at my six and reciprocate a kindly "Bite my mother****g chunk, fa***ot mother****r!

He did a double take. Then he just went crazy - screaming and ranting, and he started running towards me! I wasn't particularly worried about the skinny old f**k but I did not however want to drop my 600+ lb bike in the middle of dealing with that. But, fate would have it that whatever crack he was smoking or drink he was drinking was a severe inhibition to his balance. As he leaped off the curb, he proceeded to trip and bust his ass in the traffic lane. He managed to drag his drunk/stoned ass back up on the curb as I was moving again. In my rearview all I could see was motorists laughing there asses off.

Any other cranky old men encounters lately?

Shrug. Would be nothing to see here...

So at a mild jape you went crazy - screaming and ranting and gesturing.

Then he just went crazy - screaming and ranting,

You sure you got your pronouns correct?

Any other cranky old men encounters lately?

Just how old are you?

Ok, So I guess the old guy coulda kept his mouth shut initially, but did you have to go and get OBSCENE in retaliation? Appearently you can't take a little ribbing. Is the crap that you said back the most intelligent thing you could come up with? Nobody wants to hear this kinda juvenile B.S. in public. The old guy was being funny. Instead of jousting back,You decided to go punk ******* on him. I think i'd take his side on the matter. Hey Playa',..Man up.

I don't know where you reside, but starting a shouting match with a crazy stranger can get you dead in Texas. Everyone here carries.

It tends to ensure a certain level of cordial decorum. lol

Jay, this kind of view of concealed (or open) carry just feeds the anti-gun frenzy. I hope the folks carrying only takes out the weapon when there is an actual threat without opportunity to extract themselves from the situation.

Are you sure it's the gun laws that make people more polite? Maybe they would have been more considerate and polite anyway.

There's an old saw that "An armed society is a polite society."

The underlying assumption is "You never know who you're messing with..." as appearances can be deceiving. Encounters are less likely to escalate, because folks who carry should think through the consequences.

The point isn't that gun owners will have doors held open for them and every one will say "please" and "thank you" with due obsequiousness.

One of my favorite aphorisims, "Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty and the pig likes it."

I try not to get into confrontations with people that have nothing to loose or that are desperate and trapped in a corner.

They can be surprisingly resourceful. Protect that medical.

You need more wine tastings. Preferabley AFTER you get home, and off the bike. :D

I am a very polite driver, and ignore any road rage. It is just not worth the risk. Mr. Makarov says so. ;)

What about ignoring the rantings of a lunatic?

It's usually the best policy.

It will keep you out of Spin Zone, too.

Can't argue with that.

Someone needs to switch to decaf.

Someone needed to lay off the crack pipe, too.

A rational opinion, I can respect that. He said what was on his mind, and I said what was on my mind. I tend to do that and it tends to get me in to trouble. I couldn't work for a major corporation.

Judging by what he was wearing, any weapon he could have been carrying probably wasn't big enough to penetrate my riding jacket.

but why feed the stereotype of guys on sportbikes?

Feed it to who? A crackhead bum? Just so we are clear, I am not anti Harley or Harley rider and in fact would get a Road Glide if I had the garage space for it. Actually I don't treat other riders like that. Or coherent people like that.

Haha Anthony, no wine involved here. I have, however, paid for (but probably not earned) a doctorate from the Anger Management Academy. Wine probably would have mellowed me out.

What is it with all the hate and anger and aggression that's going on lately? Christmas coming or something? Or is it just a city thing and me being in the woods too long over the last several years?

BTW, after rereading the original post several times since last night, I'm still trying to figure out which is the cranky old man in the story..and there is only two characters involved. Both seem to be pretty crabby.

+1. I'm still trying to understand what the point of this thread is.

I wear practically no clothing, down here on the island. Khaki pants, Hawaiian shirt, sandals.

And when I'm working, I'm usually carrying a 9 mm Keltec. The new sub-compact handguns are very easy to conceal.

It's not hate (a grievously overused word in contemporary discourse), but it could be called aggression. I did not see anything to suggest that Sac hate's the urchin - just that he did not much care for what the guy said.

That's the Beauty of Sac's original post - he did not tell you which participant was the "cranky old man," did he? It's up to the reader to make *that* call! :D

You lawyers! Always giving people the benefit of the doubt! Ha!

Although I'm sure intended as other than complimentary, there is some truth to that. I was in a pretty agro mood Friday. But to be honest I forgot about the whole thing after I downed my fourth scotch and didn't think to post about it until Saturday afternoon.

Feed the stereotype to anyone watching your behavior and, since you've posted this thread, to anyone reading your post.

Whatever dude but this has nothing to do with sportbikes and Harleys, both are incidental to the situation. And technically a Councours is a sport tourer, not a sport bike.

If I had been riding a Harley and he had been a washed out Japanese sumo wrestler shouting "Buy a Honda" my response would have been the same.

That's too bad, duuuuude. I was hoping you were really much brighter than that and was just jerking our chains to see the reaction. That would have made it interesting!! Obviously not. And a Concours (correct spelling) is really just a mediocre bike anyway. Mostly sold to old guys......

Oh well, another poster to "ignore"....:nono:

Once again, We have to blame the deterioration of the family unit in the U.S. This is what happens when kids are'nt taught how to act responsibly in public. I'm just glad he did'nt spew such vulgar crap in front of my kids, or he'd have learned what Jap bikes taste like.

Do me a favor. Add my name to your ignore list also.

This is a pilot's forum. Good judgement, personal responsibilty, and civility towards each other is of value here. May I suggest you reassess your membership and your title as a pilot.

As you wish, preacher.

But seriously, some of you read much more in to this that there is. And you already HAVE an ignore list. If you don't like something you read, ignore it. It's as simple as that. I do the same.

You sir, deserve special mention.

1. Those that assess membership, have assessed.

2. My title as pilot? How does that even enter in to the discussion? Do you think I'm incapable of flying an airplane? How would you even begin to know?

Internet badasses, gotta love them. You go boys.

Sez the anonymous internet badass who just went on another ignore list.

Okay I don't mean to hate on you but this is hilarious. You have no personal ties to the post I made but yet you made some value judement that is was bad therefore you need to jump on the bandwagon.

I'm sorry guy but I really am not put out on the whole thing. If it makes you feel better, then good.

So I was out running with my dog yesterday, and this old lady looks at me and says, "Get a Great Dane!"

So I stop, look at her, and say, "Oh yeah you $$##@$$@ stupid $$$#@#?? Go $%$$@%$ &^^%!! You *&%%%%%!!!"

So she said, "I'll kick your %$^@$^$ You Low **&^% mother $$#@%@!!"

So I told her off as I continued running -- away, quickly.

Don't you hate old ladies with sawed off 10 gauges?

I'd take (and in the past have) a 1 liter Japanese or Italian (preferably a Ducati) sportbike over ANY Harley, any day of the week.
