Nicholas is in the hospital

Best wishes and a speedy recovery to Nick. We need your acerbic comments to keep this place going!

Edit: And at least it sounds like he's awake and coherent (and no doubt on tons of painkillers) since he sent his father to notify his extended family (us), so that's definitely a plus.

Wow, Nick...Tom and I are so sorry to hear about this. We hope you have a rapid recovery. You will be missed at Gaston's. Keep us posted on your status and recovery.

Merde! I'm so sorry to hear this! Don't think there's much I can add to what the others have said. Get well soon!

Nick, make it back to the board soon. Ya got a LOT of folks who care about ya.

Prayers are in the works.

can you tell us what hospital he is at? cookies will be inbound soon. thansk for the update.

Thank you all for your outpouring of support. I'm sure Nicholas was very happy to hear it. He cannot receive calls right now because we are not sure where his phone is. I'm going to head over to Academy and see if it may be laying on the side of the road somewhere, hopefully in one piece.
I tried calling his phone earlier today in hopes of getting an update and got voicemail. It did ring several times first--so it was most likely on.

We appreciate the update. You can register for an account at home or I can create one for you so that you can update us from your home. If you have any questions you can call me at: 763-229-9341.

We really do appreciate you posting about the accident. Nick is a member of our family.

Jaw wired shut... well, if there's a way to stop ya from smoking and giving in to the desire, ya found it! :)

Somehow, I don't think that's gonna stop ya in the SZ. :D

Keep on the rise. Prayers will continue.

Kudos to your actions for saving your friend; not once but twice. Ya deserve a hero's welcome for this. If I make it out to Moriarty as I'm hoping, I'll have to treat ya.

Oh.... and, hands off the nurses! :D

Wow, details were a bit more dramatic than I expected. A hero indeed - get yourself fixed up soon Nick!

I just received the following text message from Nick :):
Nick said:
Hey jesse sry I mssed ur call. Lost phone. Just got it back. Can't talk jaw is broken

Wiring your jaw shut to quit smoking? :hairraise: (just kidding.)

In my best chinese accent - 'Qwart o wo'ton sup...fed ex.' :p

Get well soon. :)

C'mon Nick! You've got to come back and post "looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking." :p

Now that there is funny!

Nick,

Glad to hear you're conscious and stabilized. That was a hell of a selfless act Nick. Your friend owes you big time. Get better soon.

best wishes dude. way to save someone else's life at your own expense. Probably could say you saved the other person twice in one night.

Damn Nick - I guess we'll have to excuse you for not making Gaston's after all. We'll videotape the part where we throw Jesse in the river and send it to ya. :D

Folks, I think we can help him with the only-typing-with-one-hand problem - Let's all pitch in and buy him an iPhone. :D :D :D

My best friend was hit by a drunk driver about 8 years ago - 6 weeks in the hospital, 6 months in full-time rehab, and since he had a brain injury, still not quite the same. I fully approve of feeding any drunk driver to a prop, slowly, feet first. It's also why I go to great lengths to stop people from driving drunk (as Nick obviously does too). I once had to beat the hell out of a guy to stop him, but I stopped him.

DWI's was a pet peeve of mine when I worked patrol. I arrested my best friend for public intoxication once to keep her from getting in a car and driving drunk. She refused to listen to reason, so she sat in a drunk tank all night to think about it. She didn't talk to me for months, but at least she was alive to give me dirty looks.

Way to save your friend twice in one night Nick!

Nick man... hope you are reading this. You're a f**king hero, man. Mend well -- if you need anything, don't hesitate to reach out... we're all here to help man.

Recover quickly!!!!

I Share Scott Migaldi's sentiment, as in "holy cr_p!".

I sure hope the GF is worth it! sigh......

Good show twice over.

As for the drunk, why waste a good prop on him/her? The engine will likely need a teardown too. Just give them a flying lesson...kick them out of a plane sans chute & see if they learn fast how to fly on the way down...

Give em flying lessons, and you don't even need to be a CFI, cause they ain't gonna log it! As I said before, Nick, way to be a hero!

That is my definition of a hero. Jump right in there and do the right thing without even thinking about it. Always knew you had your head in the right place. Just wish it didn't end up being such a wrong place, too.

I've been on the receiving end of this **** before, and it's awful....

Get better soon Nick, PLEASE!!!

Damn Nick, way to do some good. Recover so you can come to Gaston's next year!

Jesse, thanks for the update from Nick... glad that he's at least able to text you!

WAY too humane.

Agreed. I have positively zero tolerance for drunk driving. Feeding them to the prop is too expensive since it will cause a prop strike and thus necessitate a new prop and engine teardown.

However, there are plenty of other ways to inflict massive amounts of pain and suffering on them at little or no cost to us. A torque wrench with some various appendage-sized sockets comes to mind... 200 lb-ft seem reasonable?

Soldering iron?

Glad to hear Nick is on the mend... and seriously (not really), a hospital stay is an excellent way to go "cold turkey"... 'specially if you're getting painkillers... :D

More bright side: the friend will now never forget his gesture, or why he made it... drunk driving is so dangerous, yet so preventable most of the time.

Doing the right thing is always worth it, even when it costs you.

cookies will be inbound soon. thansk for the update.

Tony, I thought you liked Nick? His jaw is wired shut and you send him COOKIES!!!!:hairraise: How cruel.

Nick, get better quick. My brother had a run in with a drunk driver and had his jaw wired. It is amazing how many foods can be pureed. They look weird but taste Okay.
I have a recipe for broth---heat water until boiling, throw in one of those cube broth thingys, smuck it up, then stir well. It's even easier with those little packets of broth, you can skip the smuck it up part.:D

Seriously, though, get better, get back here. We are already missing you.

Barb

i had that thought before i realized the whole jaw wired shut thing. so i guess ill have to eat the cookies myself for now.

If it hasn't been figured out yet, it looks like the closest hospital to Academy Blvd is UNM. Dunno if that would be it though.

That will make him feel better. I know, just leave out any nuts. He can blenderize the cookies with a little milk. Milk and cookies through a straw. Your cookies are worth it.

Bravo Zulu to you my friend. We are all proud of what you did and would have expected no less of such a fine person. I'll keep you in my prayers Nick. let us all know if you need any thing. What ever it is I'm sure POA will figure out a way to get it there.
