So you're going to leave just because some idiot gives you a 1 star? If you wouldn't make a big deal out of it -- it wouldn't happen. So either learn to ignore the stars and be the bigger man..Or just leave for once and quit threatening it.

I doubt most people here even notice the stars. I sure don't.

And whoever keeps giving him one star? Why be a jerk? This guy obviously can't handle it.

I note the last thread on which Ben posted was the one about bank angle in the pattern, and Ben's last post reflects "Edited by Ron Levy." This, immediately prior to the kickoff of this very-confusing thread.

What in the heck is all that about?
 
Sheesh. My story about the guy who got back in the plane, at the very strip where he was in a fatal air crash got NO stars, and I'm still here.

I dunno - no stars is different, I think. I don't think it means anything. The stars are for voting on a thread (up at the top of the thread itself). They go from one to five, five being excellent and one being terrible.

ONE star is sort of like getting a 25 cent tip - it's meant to send a message. Me? When I get single stars I just vote myself some more stars! :D And maybe express a wee bit o' outrage, to point out the need for yet more stars (y'all are such good people!)
 
Wait....there's stars? The only ones that ever counted with me were the little sticky ones I got in kindergarten....those were awesome.

I've had posts edited by members of the MC before. I have to admit that I wasn't a fan of that taking place. I think that it should either be left alone or deleted...but only if it blatantly violates board policy.

The times that it happened to me were minor edits, and that's why it kinda bugged me.

That said, we're all big boys and girls here. This board is way mellow compared to similaR EDucatoinal boards. If you can't take it here...you're in deep trouble.
 
I just re-read that thread and didn't see anything that should have annoyed anyone. Obviously something happened behind the scenes. What?
 
Ahhhh... now I know what I can do with the threads started by those gun-totin' liberals in the SZ. :D

Yeah... Maybe Ron can enlighten us as to what was "edited" and why.

I really thought that the person who kept doing the 1-star thing was banned a while back. Chuck, can non-members use star ratings?

I like Ben, I dunno why anyone, especially in this community, would want to chase him away. :mad: :dunno:

I had thought the same. But it seems there is a new 1-start person. But really who even looks at the stars?

Yes, get rid of them. The only people who use them or care about them seem to be ones with nefarious motives. I've never once paid attention to them, and didn't realize we had them here till now.
 
Ben is just a good, sensitive guy. Like many musicians. You just to not let it get to you Ben and continue to contribute, learn, etc.
 
Hello everyone. It isn't about stars. Something else happened, but I don't want to stir up a pot. After a good night's sleep, I figure that this is still the best aviation webboard around, so I'm staying. Thanks to Chuck and Ron for your hard work.
 
Good news, Ben. We definitely need a strong dose of art and music among us louts.

Is it insulting to refer to a Freight Shaker as a Mack? :D
 
We took all that stuff out at the other vBull board at which I helped admin, including post counts and anything else (that was a number or ranking system). People just got way too hung up on how many posts, how many stars, the rank system, etc.

And it is a much happier place.

All you have to do is comment them out of the code.

Post count matters. Any social group has to have a way to tell who's been around and who's green. It's normal. Getting TOO hung up on it, that's silly.

I'm tempted to vote 1 star just to see what happens. But seriously, what kind of self esteem and security issues does one have to be affected by what someone on an internet forum says. With that being said I respect and value the opinions of the members here, but I refuse to let someone who does not know me deter me from atempting to absorb the wealth of knowledge on these pages. And Ben since you said the stars was not the issue, the self esteem comment was not directed at you. Just a general observation/question. I'm sure you are far more secure than I based on your love of public performance.

Wouldn't bother me to see it go. Every so often I'll rate a thread "excellent" if I feel it deserves it, but never use the rating system to send a "message". Yep, junk it.

I don't use it or care, but they are pretty. :yes:

I think we should put 5-stars on every thread. Why have that 'competitive atmosphere" where posters with less stars are made to feel unworthy. After all, aren't we all "winners"? By celebrating the "winner" in all of us we all 'win' and all our posts are gracefully decorated with lovely gold starts. ( :vomit: )

Perhaps we should all get PoA bumper stickers too. They can say my pilot is a honor roll poster at PoA :dunno::D:vomit::vomit::vomit::vomit:
