Thread drift my dear fellow! The same way it drifted to buying an airplane vs a house. The same way it drifted to how old guys screwed up the country for the young guys. The same way it drifted to a discussion on the electoral college. The same way it drifted to how many women pilots are there in different locales. Thread drift. It happens. :yes:

Does anyone have a really good salsa recipe?
I like a bit of vinegar and cilantro in mine but struggling for a good solid recipe

Basically two people I would vote for, Sanders or Trump, everyone else is status quo. Carson would be interesting if he made a ticket, but he won't. He thinks he's the second coming of Christ and would play right into ISIS's plan to bring about Armageddon. Trump will too, but that's just because he's an arrogant ass. Sanders might actually take on the Fed, but Kennedy was the last POTUS to try, and things didn't go well for him.

I dont.
I am a weak taster though so I like crazy strong flavors.
Tons of lemon juice in my guac. :yes:

I tend to even add it to store bought.

Congress did that. The nickname is to keep people thinking Presidents write and vote for law changes. Smoke screen.

I've often wondered and asked a few leftist friends why they didn't flame broil their "representatives" who obviously voted for insurance companies over their ideals.

They usually blather on about how even with a majority in both houses, there were "extenuating circumstances" and get angry at me. I've never bought it. I tell 'em to go be angry at their representatives who didn't vote as they wanted.

Unless of course the circumstances were that they had a midterm coming up. And managed to lose seats even with the watered down non-single-payer overly complex mess they voted for without even having time to read it.

Whoever dictated that they do that, is the real power in DC. Certainly not the President.

Yes, super simple as well. Avocados, diced red or Vidalia onion, real limes for juicing, Pace Picante sauce or similar to your liking (RoTel works as well), mix it all together in whatever consistency you prefer, salt and pepper to taste.

I never knew that the South led the way for equality way back then and it was the evil North that wanted to deprive the slaves / black man of equality.

That is a perverse interpretation.

As has been previously explained, the reason that the North did not want count slaves for purposes of representation is that it did not want to reward the South with extra political power gained via the immoral institution of slavery. It was not a move against slaves or blacks but against slavery itself.

If the South wanted equal representation for their blacks, maybe they should have considered giving them their freedom and the right to vote first. But I guess they felt that giving them a job, a place to sleep and a beating every so often was enough.

This wasn't about equality and it wasn't about respect. It was about political power. The South had many more slaves, so they wanted slaves to be counted. The North wanted to tell the South what to do, so they wanted slaves counted as 0.

The 3/5 clause has nothing at all to do with anything other than how many congressmen a state would receive.

The country is full of them. The entire area of St Louis where I grew up is largely now populated with Bosnian refugees from the Clinton era, all Muslims. Since they have arrived there has been a massive influx of good bakeries, but not much else. They do seem to keep up their neighborhoods.

Remember that one time a a kid got his hands on an AR-15 and shot up a school? That worked out far worse.

Arguably the Boston Marathon bombing was worse. Even though there were fewer fatalities (6 vs 27?), there were far more injuried (260+ vs 2).

We had a lot of Sudanese refugees settle around here - the "Lost Boys" generation. Used to see a lot of them, but I haven't noticed any in a number of years. Part of the reason they settled around here was Manute Bol. Bol was an NBA player originally from Sudan that moved here after he retired. He spent a lot of time back in Sudan and in and around war zones trying to help refugees. There is some speculation that he got sick during one of those trips and that caused the kidney failure that killed him. It's a fascinating story that a lot of people don't know about:

Topic swerve again with a new thought - how about if we place all new immigrants on a program to assist them with integration into the US? Once a week they need to meet with a social worker who can help direct them on processes and check on what they're doing, where they're working, etc...make sure that they're getting the most from the American Dream. Along the way, the social worker is helping keep tabs on what the person is doing and looking for signs that they might not be legitimate.

Seems like a win-win. It helps solves the issue of what happened in Paris and I think would alleviate some of the fear and stigma they're going to experience.
