Why can't everyone just get along? I mean we are all here for the same reason, because we love to fly! We should bond and stick together, not try to boost our own ego by belittling someone else.

 Good luck with that sister. Our society is based on a hierarchy of who can take greater advantage over whom, and our default techniques are overbearing presence and violence. Since physical violence is unavailable verbal assault becomes the default technique. All of life is a competition, all of society, because that is the way we perceive and treat it; it isn't necessary, but it's the only thing we know, and what we fear most of all is change, because change introduces the unknown. That it is a pilot forum and most all the personalities are type A and operating free of the threat of physical repercussions of their interactions. A sharp sociology student could pull a good doctoral dissertation out of this forum, probably more than one. All this forum is is a representative polling of quite a large cross section of people from all sorts of back grounds and economic positions. It's our society in a microcosm, and what you see reflects who we are and how we actually think of ourselves and each other. And the result is we are mean, selfish, stupid, and egotistical. We don't like that fact, so we'll try to hide that it exists. The effort will fail, but that goe to the norm in our society as well. We keep doing the same things to fix the same problems expecting a different result each time. That's a classic example of stupidity, and we fail to recognize t for what it is. Therefor we'll repeat it again.

Never went to the Spin Zone. Won't miss it, but worry that the vitriol will works its way into other threads.

It will now that it has no where else to reside. It used to provide a buffer for people to release their assholiness, without it there...:dunno:.

Let the spinzoners set up their own site on the Delphi forums and go beat each other up there...problem solved...

Good! Maybe FC will find out about it and everything will be back to normal in the political, name calling world.

We are not allowed to have this conversation here.

It must be in the Spin Zone.

Yeah, apparently even a positive mention of "that place" (I'm afraid to even say it) in the general forums gets your wrist slapped. My thread was "moderated" and deleted without even the common courtesy of being read first.

Not even close.

What are we missing? We even have single mothers and a large contingent with varying mental conditions that can't get a medical. We have the dirt poor to multi millionaires, we have participants from various regions around the world and pretty much every culture of America. We have drunks, drug addicts, thieves, soldiers, engineers, doctors, lawyers, and cops among farmers and IT pros just to get started. We even has Womyn in various shapes, sizes, and colors.

WE ARE PILOTS THOUGH! Being able to accept change is what a pilot must be able to handle without question.

Not really, because there is nothing unknown about flying, and we can train for known changes. Once we have procedures in place, then we are fine. You won't find many PPs with 152 only experience who would be willing to get in a Fouga Jet and solo it first flight.

Do you thnk that in 50 years from now, that pilots will not encounter new and unknown scenarios that will test their adaptation abilities? The known changes were once unknown. What about the father and son (God rest their souls) were expecting that F-16 to come directly into their flight path? No. How do you train for that? There is more to being able to accept change than just flying an airplane. What if you get the job offer of a lifetime to go be apart of an airliner in a foreign country like India with tremendous pay and benifits? Can you accept that change of living in their society. I went to India once, and my goodness I have to say that I am so thankful to be an American. What about that FO that locked the cockpit, when the Captain went to the bathroom? I wonder how that Captain accepted that change. That was not supposed to happen, and there was no way to correct it unless you try super hard to kick in the door or other methods.

All that I mean is that, my life has been a series of changing events since I can remember. You know what? I actually enjoy change, and have loved all of the experiences I have had in my 25 years on this Earth. It keeps things exciting.

I don't think mankind as we know it will exist in 50 years. As for testing adaptability, that is in the realm of "test pilots" who write the procedures common pilots put their faith in by memorizing and practicing, drilling for the possibility.

Oh Jeez, I didn't post fast enough.

You have a great future ahead of you April and you will do well with your positive outlook. Don't let anyone try to take that away from you. There are some pretty miserable people posting here who think they have all the answers and that we are doomed, don't let them get you down.

I think the George Carlin ahole theory applies here.

This is on YouTube, but it is still Carlin, so be careful who is around. One of his best.

You seem to be fairly familiar with the spin zone for someone who only joined POA very recently. Personally I never went to it so I have no idea what it was like though I have only been on POA a few months. What drew you to the spin zone?

New account. I've been around the block for sometime.

Well, people have been making predictions regarding the demise of mankind for a very long time. We are still here and for the most part still advancing even though some forces try to stop it.

I'm thinking about producing a low-budget version of "Swan Lake" and calling it "Duck Pond."

Read some of the posts I started and the comments to them. You will wonder why you are even a member of this group.

I stick around because I love flying. Pilots not so much. How times have changed. For at one time I respected all pilots. Not so much today.

How about..Scum lake. We have a under water lake here in Mason County by Havana IL all the locals call Nigg#r lake. A few years ago they had a major flood there and this underwater lake flooded the town of Havana. All the major news stations came to this town. When people called this lake Nigg#r lake the news channels had a field day with it. Today they call it something else. To all the locals its still...Nigg#r lake. I have no idea why. But your post reminded me of..Nigg#r Lake...lol

Tony

P.S. When did Nigg#r become a bad word. Its a way of life nothing more. Comes in all different colors.

Once tyrants taste power it becomes insatiable.

I have seen it many times before in many other forums. Dissent is not allowed from the hords of the unwashed.

A conversation best continued in the SZ. Oh wait! There isn't one! :mad2::mad2::mad2:

I think we all love flying. That is why we are here.

As to pilots, we/they are just like any other segment of the population. You have individuals ranging from fantastic to not so much and that is true from pimple faced teenage student pilots all the way to gray bearded ATPs. I have been working in aviation for 35 years and have seen all types in all groups. I have never had respect for all pilots just the ones who deserved it.

I do think however that internet sites and forums where one can engage in all sorts of derisive or divisive dialogue with relative impunity does tend to make one less likely to view all people in their group in as positive a light as they might if they were only to meet them in person. Something about being face to face with the other person that instills a little civility.

I agree with your statement. I have met all sorts of pilots, and have admired and respected a select few.

So there is this pilot who is now in his home country flying a Boeing, but when we were both students at this flight school in Houston, we christened each other, "Aviation Soulmates." It was a platonic relationship, but we did everything together. From visiting the tower regularly, flying everywhere for the adventure, and studying from sun up to sun down. I miss him, and have never met another aviator like that.

You can tell who truly loves to fly for the joy of it, and those for the status of it.

Nigg r has been an insulting word for my entire life. I'm 72.

Never went to the Spin Zone. Won't miss it, but worry that the vitriol will works its way into other threads.

I didn't do it, so no one else should enjoy it either. Put another way, if one doesn't do something, how would one miss it and why would one comment on it?

Sorry to be fractious, just how I see things. IBTL and all that.

Which is exactly what I've tried to point out. Any vitriol in the non-SZ fora (and I found, I think, three examples in just the 48 hours following the announcement that SZ was closing) because of certain vitriolic posters, not because of the Spin Zone.

If the intent of the MC was to reduce the overall level of vitriol, that is not likely to succeed. If the intent is to reduce the level of vitriol in non-SZ fora, that is even less likely to succeed.

So closing the SZ is either incoherent, or for reasons not disclosed. Both are with the MC prerogatives. Neither are laudable.

Agreed.

If people showed up to PoA fly-ins you'd realize that the person on the other side of the keyboard isn't how you think they are. I've been to 30+ PoA get-togethers and the funny thing is at least two of the people I've met at those places I turned out to really like them - even though their online persona I'd hoped would end up in an NTSB report. Try getting out from behind the keyboard and seeing who the people really are.

Fun fact: There's even been a gathering in your neck of the woods every year since PoA has been here except one. It will be there next year too.

Most people in the Spin Zone, or who are bitching about it closing have no real intent to be part of the community. They just want to tell other people how their side sucks.

Heck, even Geico seemed like a nice guy!:rofl:
