I am just curious how the demographics work out here as far as carrying a handgun. I do not mean as an on-duty LEO (Law Enforcement Officer) but do have a poll response for off-duty.

Also, I broke it down re open-carry vs. concealed carry. If you carry both then please vote as "open-carry".

This is just curiosity on my part, not prompted by anything particular or to forward any opinion.

You can vote on the poll without commenting and it is anonymous. I don't know if the board mods are able to see who voted what. Perhaps one will let us know.

Needless to say, no Spin Zone soap-boxing or whatever, please.

I am a "never" guy, but that's only because I have not yet done the C&C training.

It would have been interesting to see choices with 'licensed CC' within them

In my state you can open carry without a permit provided you meet some age and no felony requirements. However I want it to be a surprise so I have a permit to carry concealed and 95% of time I'm packing.

Can't where I live now. When I've lived places where I could I almost never did. I'd prefer having the option, but with so many women/children around to use as handy human shields I can't see dealing with the hassle of carrying a gun all the time.

Again, not polling if folks are following any law or not, just curious as to how many folks carry.

so far the split is interestingly about 50/50 if just looking at carry vs no carry.

another "interesting" item would have been to split the never carry's into "and do not own firearms" vs "and do own firearms"

I have a CCW (so I'm legal) and occasionally carry but rare.

I guess but that is not what I am curious about. That also gets into a lot of nuances. I tried to keep this simple, i.e. do you carry a handgun on your person.

When I carry, I open carry. My gun is intended to be a detractor from having to use it, not an excuse to kill someone.

Open and concealed carry as the mood strikes me. I go both ways on that. perfectly legal here to open carry but not in your car without a CHL. So have a CHL to prevent having to put it away and lock it up. Also, my limited amount of holsters right now is part of the issue. Have not found the perfect IWB and OWB holsters yet.

I tend to go concealed a little more as it is easier to do so in public but I like to open carry as well. I have only been carrying a few months so this is all new to me still.

Don Hume makes a good, IMHO, IWB holster.

If you do both, please vote as "open carry". Thanks.

You would be hard pressed to find me out in public without a concealed weapon, ever.

Thanks! The "open-carry" is the minority so I want to be sure that they are correctly represented in the results.

I agree we are in the minority but there is a nice internet community of open carriers all over Ohio. Some parts of Ohio are more friendly to it than others.

Milt Sparks is the man for holsters. Google him to find his website. Great stuff, most of the time there is a several month waiting list due to high demand.

Summer Special is the best model :)

IMO the perfect IWB for various models.... simple, light and thin. Easy to "bend" with a little heat to get the cant just right too.

I've never carried concealed, but wear a holster and .357mag out to do chores when I am having possum and raccoon problems.

"Dirty" Barb? Go ahead opossum, make my day? or are you just planning to shoot *through* the woodpile to get one?:D

(hey, I've put many a hole in paper targets with 45 ACP so who am I to make snide remarks about cartridge selection...)

I only open carry when riding the motorcycle, only in states that allow open carry and recognize my permit. Otherwise it's concealed.

I've settled on three holsters I really like:

Concealed:

Smartcarry: I use this one in the summer, carries the weapon inside your pants in front of the Johnson. Sounds awkward, but it is my favorite holster. I can be in a T-shirt, shorts, and flip flops and only a VERY good eye is going to notice. I use this with a subcompact automatic. They claim larger weapons can be used, but it would be bulky.

Milt Sparks Versa-Max 2: Very nice leather IWB holster, I use this one in the winter when I let my shirt tails out (mostly) but with the optional clips I can tuck a dress shirt over the weapon. It does print a little, however. Weapon for this one is also a subcompact automatic.

Open:

Blackhawk Serpa Level 3 duty: New style plastic holster, VERY secure, the weapon isn't coming out unless you want it to yet is very quick to draw. The weapon carried open is a Glock 21 full size .45APC automatic.

I've tried others, and they've gone away on craigsiist/ebay, etc.

I have a CPL (as it is called in Washington). If I'm carrying, you won't know. If I'm not, you won't know (unless I'm at work, in which case, no, I'm not carrying - not worth getting fired over).

The IWB holsters I've got are from Remora. My Bersa Thunder 380 cc fits in the Remora holster in my front pocket quite nicely. Or IWB if I prefer. My Kahr CW40 is just a hair longer and I'm not sure how well it will fit in the pocket, but IWB is nice. Still looking for something good for my 1911.

I just purchased a crossbreed supertuck for my 1911. It takes a few weeks to get it but when I do Ill give you a run down. I stuffed my S&W 1911 in my buddies super tuck and his was for a kel tek 380 and the 1911 fit good and did not feel heavy nor did it print on me. Im an average size person 5-11, 180lbs and was able to conceal a full size 1911. Plus they let you try it out for 2 weeks free, So I pulled the trigger.. We will see.

Can't see the poll on the iPad.

I carry off duty, usually a Glock 26 Gen 4 in a Comp-Tac MTAC inside-the-waistband holster. If my clothes don't work out with that, then it's a Ruger LCP .380 in a pocket holster.

Why use the acronym AND spell it out? It's not like you used the term again.

Oh, and on topic...

What's it mean when there are 7 choices for carrying a gun and only 1 for not? Simple 'do you carry?' poll seems to be pretty slanted with all the carry options. Can guns really be under attack when the pro gun stance has seven options vs. one for the anti-gun crowd?

Oy vey. I use it twice in the poll.

That is not on topic, that is Spin Zone. No, thank you.

I have a Wa. state CCW. and you never know.

You missed the category of: I always carry - I just don't tell :D

I saw a clip on this news the other day about this. Why did you shoot the man 6 times?

Waitress standing at bus stop at 10 pm. She just got off work and was waiting on the bus. She has a CC permit and was holding her gun in her purse.

All of a sudden she gets spun around and the next thing she knows some dude is running away and she is standing there with this gun in her hand.

She said, I just got paid and every penny I owned was in that purse. She holds up the gun and started pulling the trigger.

She said on the seventh pull it just went click. They let her walk. If more thought people had a weapon things like this would not happen.

I say..Go girl...

Check out Milt Sparks holsters.

I live in Florida, carry a 5" 1911, and not even my wife can tell when I'm carrying or not.

I just purchased a crossbreed supertuck

Supertuck is one of the holsters I've tried and then sold. But, they have a good rep and every body type is different. I hope you like it.

I currently use an Alien Gear IWB for a Ruger P90 .45ACP ... I've not compared it to the Crossbreed, but folks I talked to that have say it's comparable.
No name brand nylon for OWB ... thinking about trying one of the Serpa or similar for OWB ...
