Young Eagles F(l)ight Made My Day
I wish I felt comfortable posting pictures of their smiling faces but probably best not to.
Alarm went off at 6 AM
Drive to Denton and get out at Sunrise.
Fly to KGLE where the kids start filtering in.
I am taking photos of a couple little girls learning about preflight and the mom says "are you our pilot?" I said "I am a pilot and if you need one, I am your guy"
Sweetest little 7 and 9 year old girls start walking to my plane and I ask "Mom, have you ever been in a small plane? If not, what are you waiting for?"
"She said she didn't think she could tag a long." Are you kidding?
So we all get in and I blab about taxi ways and wind socks and runways and radios. Mom and the little girl in back seem interested but the girl up front w/ me is silent.
We do the run-up and I ask everyone if they are ready. Mom and little one "yes sir" girl up front is quiet but smiling.
I take off and right about 500 feet up, girl up front whispers into the mic "This is the best day of my life"
I said "It is the best day of my life too and it gets better. Put your hands on the steering wheel like I have mine."
She held her hands there long enough for me to get a picture before saying "Mister, I think it's time I let go of this." LOL!!!
I only flew 4 kids and a mom but all of them were grinning from ear to ear and sending a flurry of "Wow", "Awesome", etc into their mics.
I am sure there are more noble causes to give time to and who knows if any of these kids will get into aviation but being able to share that today was amazing. I got to be somebody's first plane ride.
Great Day!
