May 12th. All are welcomed. 8-17 year olds get a free ride. See flyer.
Pilots PM me if you're interested. You need to be an EAA member and meet FAA requirements to be PIC.
With rentals, it depends on what the FBO allows. If you're a member of the National, and current, you are good to go. The thing to remember is the credit for your flights in YE go to the chapter you first go fly with.Tell me this: do I qualify? I didn't think so, but joined EAA national (and chapter) before my meeting the other night. That was my third meeting so I felt pretty bad not paying yet. They made me stand up and everyone said hello to the newest member. There is a Young Eagles on Saturday, but I can't go - I'll be in Sacramento doing an advanced formation flying clinic / checkrides (observing). I was only going to be Young Eagles ground crew, for now, simply because lately my flights have sucked and my confidence has taken a real hit. At the same time, such a wonderful "free airplane ride" gathering might give me something to be proud of. We shall see, there is apparently one out of my home airport in July - which I am VERY comfortable taking off / landing in - that could work. I'll need to talk to my flight school about it. I already have my own private insurance though I'm not sure when it runs out this year.

That said, I have a blast flying kids. Most will take the yoke and follow along with me as I do turns and climbs. I will occasionally do a little roller coaster on them though I did have one boy's Mom turn green in the backseat. I'll do a short tour out over the water at about 2,000 feet or if I can get them to tell me where they live, maybe fly by their house or school.
I have hit the magic number 10 twice in 10 years. At 10 or more, the chapter picks up $5 per in credit from National. Our chapter (106) used the $210 we collected to help with a scholarship to send a 17 year old to EAA Aviation camp. We are working on 2013 now but hope to fund a second 2012 scholarship.
It was a success. Along with the registered pilots, we got a couple of walk ups (or fly ins). There was plenty of ground support. The local House Rep Jim Cantwell and his son Christopher got to fly. Senator Bill Keating, instrumental in helping with Marshfield's expansion, was there. He's the guy in the sports coat pushing my plane out of parking.
