......but just have to say it again. GA ROCKS!!!!!!

My nephew just got back from Kuwait and his wife was having a welcome home party this past Saturday. He's based at Scott AFB. We were always close, so naturally I wanted to attend. The weather gods aligned perfectly, and the Trinidad made a flawless trip so I could surprise my nephew.

Left JYO Saturday morning, climbed thru the cloud layer and was on top by 5400'. Smooth flight with a landing on the civilian rwy of Scott. The only flaw on this flight was my effort to land long on the 10,000 rwy.....only got half way down the rwy. Looks like I could use some work on not landing the airplane.

Sunday morning back up into gorgeous blue skies. Stopped in northern KY (FGX) for some cheap fuel and to get rid of some coffee. A couple that were just hanging out noticed my t-shirt and asked if I was from that area (close to our farm). Got to talking and it turns out they used to live in Front Royal, VA and were part of the glider club....where I started my training and plan to go back to finish. Just another example of the infamous small world of aviation.

Back in the air for an easy finish to a great weekend. This flying stuff really rocks!!!

I lived at Scott for about 3 years, so close to the ramp that the APs were usually able to get to chew us out before we could get back to the house after retrieving a softball from among the jets.

Is it an OK stop? I was looking at it before they opened it up to GA and the published fees were insane.

Awesome, Kaye!

The amount of stuff you can get done in a short amount of time with planes is amazing. I love it more every time I fly.

Yep, okay to land. I think I read you have to give 30 minutes notice before arrival, but didn't concern myself with that as I was IFR. And there are no fees. I called before I went, and Paul at AvMats said it's just like landing at any other towered airport, and it was.
