Moving the freight while enroute? Were passengers in seats, or hanging on to crates strapped into the back?

From the picture it looks like they ended up on the center of the runway and did a good job. I am surprised that the in flight CG would allow them to do that. Things were different back then, hell they were different 30 years ago. I think the crew did a good job, it ended up well.
