This morning I flew down to Statesboro Georgia and met up with some other pilots, then flew in formation with them down to Douglas Georgia to see Tom Reilly's XP-82 Twin Mustang project. It is pretty amazing how guys like Tom can take these old airplanes and combine parts from multiple scrapped planes and turn them back into some unbelievable restorations. He said he is about a year away from having the XP-82 flying. He has six guys working with him full time and two part time. I have not had a chance to download pictures from my camera yet but here is a link to Tom's website about the restoration and a link to a YouTube video that tells some of the history of the P-82.

Have to stop down sometime and check out the progress. Used to based out of KJYL. Never heard of the project back then.

Sometime ago there was a twin mustang at wright pat in flying condition. Still there?

Very interesting and cool. The history on his web site was amazing how all the pieces came together. Curious about how that engine was found in Mexico. What a craftsman Tom must be. I'll have to stop in some time and hopefully get to see it.

I visited them about a year and a half ago. Really nice trip. Tom and his girlfriend (?) Weezie gave me a tour that was incredible - See this? Climb over that and take a look. Look under here... I also walked over to look at the WWII aircraft training museum (surviving barracks and the like) and Tom and Weezie called over there to see if I was still there so they could take me to lunch (!). Tremendous hospitality.

Also, I walked over to the adjacent hangar where a bunch of guys are building/rebuilding/restoring B-17's. "Sure, go anywhere you want, just don't break anything."

Before I left, I gave Weezie a ride in the RV.

Great visit, need to go back.
