What is the NM shortwave?

from the NWS:
CONTINUED THE MENTION OF SLIGHT POPS FOR FREEZING RAIN
TONIGHT ACROSS THE NORTH WITH AREAS OF FREEZING FOG AS THE COLDER
AIR REMAINS IN PLACE WITH THE APPROACH OF THE NEW MEXICO SHORTWAVE.

No No, Dave, I think its a new music craze in the mid west.

Short waves are smaller disturbances that typically spin off of a larger low pressure trough/system. NM would indicate its location of origin.

Thanks, I guess I see it in E NM. More in the Tx panhandle now.
You can't really be in Alert can you?

The Jepp WX book distinguishes between long wave major troughs associated with east coast winter weather patterns and smaller scale short wave troughs. They go on to say that the east side of the short wave trough is the bad weather side.
