Look at the area several hundred miles off the SoCal coast. It appears there are thin bands of CU streaming SW to NNE and overlaid by CR streaming NW to S/SE. Could one expect shear in that area?

Just what am I seeing?

There's no way to tell just looking at a satellite image, especially one with low res.
Dave, I am fam w/ that feature on ADDs. In hindsight I should have also posted the returns of that page. But when I looked, there was nothing unexpected in the results. That is, there was the typical right turning of the winds as I 'climbed' in alt.

Scott, so you wouldn't hazard a guess? Are you saying that the sat image (visible moisture) is only valuable as a cross reference to other NWS products?

Gentlemen, thank you for your responses.

That is the next storm heading our way for a wet and windy weekend that is forecast for the Mojave Desert.

Or locally referred to as "The Pineapple Express".
