written test and practical question

What would happen in this situation:

1. Go for checkride.
2. Get the oral out of the way.
3. Practical postponed for some reason or another.
4. Its the end of the month and you will not get the practical done until the begining of next month.
5. Your written expires the last day of the month (its been 2 years since you took the test) you haven't taken the practical yet.

Would you have to retake the written?

This isn't happening to me as I passed my written last summer & I am about ready for my checkride. Just curious.

(a) Except as provided in paragraphs (b) and (c) of this section, to be eligible for a practical test for a certificate or rating issued under this part, an applicant must:
(1) Pass the required knowledge test within the 24-calendar-month period preceding the month the applicant completes the practical test, if a knowledge test is required;
