What's new? This is SOP with most airlines as they monitor events and discover possible safety issues. It's known as Risk Management.

Who is Kathryn and why is she obsessed with aircraft crashes? She lost a husband to an airplane crash or something?
 
Would be nice to see the actual memo rather than a few excerpts apparently extracted to alarm non-pilots.
 
Lady on the news asked. " what happens if you do nothing when that thing is saying...pullup terrain....pullup".

Basically, we had a couple of incidents that could have ended badly. The memo was put out to basically tell the troops to follow SOP and don't do anything stupid.
