Have any of you donated or become a monthly donor? I am thinking of doing this.

We work with some retired FDNY firefighters that do a lot of fundraising for Wounded Warriors. I rarely get sappy but I have to say it is a great feeling at the end of the day when you know you helped a wounded veteran. Too bad there was nothing like this in the 60's and 70's.

Part of the money I pay to run the Tough Mudder gets donated to them.

With all the advertising they do, there couldn't be much left over for the vets.

Lots of other good organizations out there...

Lone Survivor Foundation

Special Operations Warrior Foundation

I am on the board of directors of a corporation (www.ncwoodworker.net) that is quite involved in outreach to these guys. While we don't contribute, we spend lots of time and expense teaching woodworking to these guys.

I think I'll do it. I don't care if they don't accept funds which are religious in nature, and I also don't care if they are anti-gun--as long as they do what they claim they do for veterans, I'm in!

Being on the boards of a few nonprofits, the fundraising ratio pretty much depends on whether they do it in house or not. If they have enough staff or volunteers the costs go way down. If they deal through contractors it can get especially egregious (though 36% isn't by far the worst I've seen).

I joined the Advance Guard today. I am donating $19 per month.

If you buy a tall coffee at Starbucks every day, you are spending about $55 per month.

I am confused by any organization that would decline the opportunity to spread their message through the good graces of a gentleman of the character, honor and quality of Tom Gresham.

Nonetheless, if these guys are doing a good thing, I suppose it's ok to support them.

A shame, though, that they would so dilute a good mission with political foolishness.
