OK, maybe not technically a sport, but Magnus Carlsen is defending his championship against Vishy Anand, who he defeated for the title last year.

Odds heavily favor Carlsen - maybe the strongest player of all time.

Starts tomorrow, 7A EST. Can be found streaming with little effort.

Some find this sort of thing enthralling, including me.

Others would rather watch paint dry, grass grow, or get a root canal.

Vive la difference!

I'm addicted to chess. I've been playing since I was 5 with my grandfather.

I play online with people from all over the world. Current online rating 1883 at RedHotPawn.com.

The match had its moments, and Anand finally did win a game.

But Carlsen is deservedly still World Champion.

Of all time, that's quite a statement

A few years ago, I was studying to improve my game. I wished that I had better coaching in HS; I was on the chess team but no one showed me a few basics that would have tremendously improved my play.

I came across a little book by Nigel Short called, Chess Basics. That little book changed chess for me and will forever be in my heart. I regrettably had to return the copy I had (think I got it from library), but a few years ago when I became an income earning adult, I sought for and purchased my own copy and it sits lovingly on my bookshelf.

I just hope he passes the resulting drug test.

I'm still not sure what the chess performance enhancing drugs are.
