What is the smallest windsock that would be good for daylight VFR traffic with a pattern altitude of 800 feet or lower. This would be into a grass strip that only I would use, and I neither need nor want it to be visible to anyone else from the air or road.
Personal experience and knowledge preferred. I've looked at the catalogs and have my own ideas but am asking for a broader perspective.

I think they sell them by the number of knots of wind that are required to stick the sock straight out. I don't think I'd want one that is less than a 15 kts sock.

Really anything more than 15kts is a waste. ;)

The good old FLAG is one of the better wind indicators you can use at a small field.

"It's not the size of your sock, but how easily it becomes erect in a stiff breeze." - PoA 2011.

Just make sure the windsock is properly calibrated.
