Hello, So just trying to review winds aloft tables and ran into a classic confusion point of mine,
I understand the -50 +100 for direction and wind speed but just wanted to ask for some clarification.
for SBA (bottom row) at 390 our sample is 322764 typically when used in example the value is larger than 50 and I'm just verifying that this is correct.

50 - 32 = wind is 180 true at (27+100=) 127 KTS and temp is - 64 C.

If it had been 822764 then it would have been

320 degrees
127 knots
-64C

No it's not correct. You don't subtract the wind direction from 50, you subtract 50 from the wind direction. And you only do it if the direction is greater than 36 (360°).

322764 is 320°@27kt, -64°C, no conversion is necessary.

822764 would be 320°@127kt, -64°C. You know conversion is necessary because 820° is not on a compass rose.

Here you go. Save this if you frequently use the much easier foreflight depiction of winds.
