Windows "Genuine Advantage" worldwide outage

You didn't know every copy of Windows had a kill switch? It does. Vista has more. The service that keeps the kill switch OFF isn't working.

As the article warns DO NOT do anything that will ping WGA or your (Vista) system will be unusable.

Microsoft will prolly skate past this as easy as Sony did with the root kit, though.

That's pretty bad.

I thought Windows Activation was bad enough, but WGA is a nightmare. I've lost track of how many calls I've gotten where known-legit Windows installations have failed WGA. (In the meantime, I've read about Ubuntu boxes running IE4Linux on WiNE passing WGA, though I haven't tried it myself. Go figger.)

If it weren't for the fact that the EULA for Windows basically promises nothing, all the cumulative downtime resulting from WGA snafus would make for a good class-action suit.
