Whenever I open a window it is in the icon view.
I like the list view.
How can I get it to default to list view each time?
I tried Start>Control Panel>Folder Options
Thanks

WinXP home

Open a window and set it up to look exactly how you want.

Now in that window menu go to:
Tools - Folder Options

Go to the View tab (#2 tab at the top of the dialog box)
Scroll down and find "Remember Each Folder's view settings" and ensure that it is NOT Checked

Click the button: Apply to All Folders

Click OK

Close window and reopen to verify appearance.

Send Chuck $5.00 or it will revert tomorrow. No really. I mean it. :)

That'll work in most cases.

I've had several recalcitrant folders that didn't want to "stick" to the modified view. Especially the ones with photos in them (anything in or under "My Pictures").....

Even where this condition is met?
Scroll down and find "Remember Each Folder's view settings" and ensure that it is NOT Checked

Yes.

PS. "The message too short" nag is really annoying....

Interesting. The software strips off trailing spaces but counts all spaces between letters as characters, too. So write the "Yes" message followed by 6 spaces plus a period. The spaces get 'scrunched' together due to proportional spacing.

Yes . (with six spaces)
