I returned from Tokyo this morning (I got to see 5 AM, 6 AM, and 7 AM twice on the ground today....)

Leaving out of Tokyo a few minutes after 7 AM, I was treated to this view out the airliner window. It just goes to show why we fly, especially early morning flights. For all the hassle that air travel can be (especially commercial travel), it's times like this that make it ALL worthwhile.

You got lucky. I spent 15 months in Tokyo. It was a rare day when you could see Mt. Fuji from the city.

I count myself very lucky. 2 days this week I got a nice view.

You surely didn't see that from Narita, did you?

Or has getting a transpacific flight out of Haneda gotten a lot easier?

HND-JFK this morning. There are, I think, two US carriers (AA and DL) with HND slots. The times aren't great, but it is easier....

Once I got to celebrate new years twice. Departed Tokyo in the evening on New Year's Eve. After a couple of hours the pilot came on the intercom and said "Happy New Year!". But when we landed in Seattle, it was still December 31.

BTW I got a good view of Mt Fuji from the Bullet Train one time.
