Why faster airplanes are better

Oh, and...

Right about now, you should be thinking about FAR 91.117(a), which imposes a speed limit of 250 KIAS on aircraft flying below 10,000 feet msl. Generally, of course, this regulation affects jets and faster turboprops, reducing their speed to about the same as many piston-powered aircraft.

BWAH HA HA HA HA!

its interesting that he uses a picture of that hawker...after arguing that speed differences minimize mid air risk. That hawker ran into a GLIDER that was thermalling, and they were above 10K too so no 250 knot excuses for the Hawker.

Are there ANY piston aircraft that will do 250 KIAS at 10k? I can't think of any canididates off of the top of my head.

How about a Glasair III?

There are a few, but not in level flight that I know of. Figure in a dive with power. Vne on the Commander 690A was about 240, so it was impossible to break that limit.

I think "We get there faster" is the best argument. ;)

How about the RV's ;)

I've got my flame suit on :)

Not according to their site. It won't even TAS that fast apparently. Looks like the turbo won't either if my extrapolation is right.

I suppose the fighter aircraft were obvious ones. :D Are those even practical as executive transports? I thought they were all on airshow/demonstration/proficiency experimental restrictions...

It will do more than 250 with 300HP according to that list
