Why do I want a nice landing

It all the matter of how you judge yourself.

Flyinag with two new student pilots today I found my landings to be HORRIBLE in front of them. So feeling annoyed, as all get out, at my self I asked one of my CFI friends to go up with me. After the first landing he look at me and said it was a good landing.

I realized I was being too hard on myself and that no one does perfect landings everytime.

We got 10 landings in two different aircraft in 1.1 of total HOBBS time. I feel like tonight was a successful evening of flying!

You should have seen the short field landing I demoed to a private student a month or two ago. I hit the refrigerator bars, but that's about the only thing I didn't do wrong:wink2:.

...because even though you never met nor will ever meet the person holding short of your runway as you approach...you know they will be judging your skills!..so give them someing to "wow" about in a good or bad way!

I think the biggest smile I had in years was a landing last year where I said out loud to my passenger, "Man that sucked!" He looked at me surprised and said, "It was better than the one I survived on Southwest at DIA yesterday!"

ROFL!

I concur. How many of us sit around the office and tell our friends about how we got our girl friends/wives off last night?

it's called a joke, although admittedly not a great one. lighten up. and to answer your question, about the same amount of people who are sitting around the office telling their friends about how well they landed their plane last night.

...one of the partners in our Cherokee 235 is a retired SWA Captain. My Dad was in town and I wanted to take him out to a cool place west of here for a $100 burger...and let him get some yoke time up front. My Partner overshot the runway a bit and then did a 3 banger on the runway in a pretty decent crosswind.

So he says, "Well, wonder which one of those I should count? Maybe I'll count all three...just got current again with that landing...".

I laughed out loud...

He has about 18k hours in all kinds of jets...we all crank landings from time to time. Best part of the trip was I flew the leg home and greased a nasty crosswind landing...he says, "Damn, you fly this thing better than I do!".

I'll tell you what - to echo what many have said here - landing is the hardest part and we all want to every one to be the best we've ever done. When you can grease one with a (very experienced...as in my 60 hours to his near 20k) fellow pilot sitting in the right seat...very gratifying.
