Why can't we do this to stick it to Chicago?

Ok - everyone file IFR to KORD. On final, declare that you are going missed, and would like the alternate (which could be an airport where they're actually nice to GA planes).

Enough do it each day with "Going missed, thank Daley" and I think they'd get the hint...

Yeah... They would get the hint that all those super-privileged rich private pilots are a bunch of cowboys that don't care about others (non-pilots sitting on the airliners that would be slowed for our approach) and shouldn't be allowed ANY access to the 'big' airports because OBVIOUSLY they are a hindrance to the air traffic control system and the 'good' work that the friendly airlines are trying to do to get folks to their intended destination in a timely manner.

But that's just my opinion. :D

Eh. I don't think you'd get very far with that.

I'd much rather like to see a group flight of a couple hundred planes doing a flyby over Meigs. Could get nice media attention.

Yeah, nothing like:

1. Giving ammo to da Mare that dese little plane folks are dangerous, and
2. Punishing controllers for the sins of the local gummint.

I like the motive, but cannot expect a good result from the proposed action. But keep up your thinking, I like it.

Me, I like to think that, from time to time, I might have a modest ability to influence where money gets spent, where a conference or convention might be held, ensure that Chicago is removed from the running and that the Chicago Convention and Visitors' Bureau knows why.

Futile, but still...

I have stopped three meetings from going into Chicago so far. I do everything I can to steer business away from the city. Their loss has been Portland, Miami, and Madrid's gain.

Hence, my hero. Maybe, not so futile?

I try to use my powers for good and to thwart the forces of evil

Yeah, I've decided NOT to buy the Cubs for precisely that reason.

Now if the Jacksonville Suns go on the market ... :goofy:

Hmmmm The Nashville Cubs. That has a nice ring to it

We already have the "Iowa Cubs", so the "Nashville Cubs" doesn't sound so bad. Not sure how the Nashville Sounds would feel though. ;)

Sorry, but they have a slot reservation system there. IIRC, only 4 GA slots guaranteed per hour, though that number can increase if weather allows.

Bingo. I was hoping to be able to put something like this together a couple weeks before the mayoral election, but those sneaky bastards in Chicago have their elections in February! Alas, there was not enough time, and King Richie is around for another four years. :(

So... Count on it for the next election. I was thinking, we get some of the mass-formation experts from B2O, C2O, the Mooney group, whatever to do a briefing at UGN. Then, we all fly down the lakeshore, fly over Meigs at 500AGL, and then land at GYY or IGQ or somewhere on the south side to debrief. Alert media well in advance and have them rolling cameras at Meigs and ready to do interviews at the debriefing point.

And we all squawk 7600 just to let the controllers know that WE aren't going to answer THEM.

I had a NORDO event a little over a month ago in IMC around Chicago. When I got the radio working the controller was none too pleased and chewed me out over it. He was being a bit of a jerk about it.

I can see the headlines.

"Small planes attack downtown"

I once suggested on the red board that a group of us invade that park one night & use spray paint to "recreate" the runway & taxiways.

A better idea. When the planes are landing on runways 9L&R just fly at 6500MSL outside of the class B ring squawking 1200. Trust me that will disrupt fly into the airport enough to drive the TRACON nuts, but if you really want to bug Daley just keep flying the Eisenhower transition.

Went to minor league hockey the other night, $14/ticket in the 6th row by the goal, $5/park and $3/ bucks for snow cone. Great game and we had fun. Biggest plus was that it was 10 miles from my house.

And this will affect Hizonner how again? You think he'll even ever be aware of it? All you'll do is **** of a bunch of already frazzled controllers who don't like Daley any more than we do.

Funny thing is, they don't like US any more than Daley does either!

All this would do is make the Chicago Center Controllers hate us more, and prove to Daley that we are a bunch of irresponsible idiots (which is what this would prove). Besides, you do have to make a reservation for arrival into ORD. Would not work.

The best thing to do is stay away from Chicago if at all possible.

Yes, but it's a pain. Chicago just happens to be next door to a big, friggin' cold lake.

VFR, try the lakeshore. It's pretty cool. You'll probably talk to the towers at GYY and UGN unless you weasel around their airspace.

IFR (or if you want VFR flight following the whole way), with GPS just file to KELSI and let Center know you'd like direct when able. Chi-Center knows about Chi-Approach and will keep you just out of their airspace. They're quite friendly actually. SHOOF will also work.

Without GPS... Well, KELSI and SHOOF are both on the airways so you can still use 'em. You can also use the published RFD<->SBN routes in the A/FD.

Yep, I remember Agatha and I flying to Oshkosh one summer (not during the airshow) and being silly filed from Valparaso (sp?) up the east side of Chicago following the lake shore. It was cloudy enough that VFR was not much of an option. What we got was a very nice tour of Wisconson far to the west of Chicago. :vomit:

Oh well, learned my lesson.

Well, they say file what you want...

"Advise ready to copy your new, longer clearance."

"Unable. Pen doesn't work, pencil broke. You can give me what I asked for or babysit me, your option."

The Eisenhower Transition is precisely the route that Jim Harvilchuck talked about at the IL Aviation Museum/FAA meeting last night. Showed pictures of a fligh from CLow, East to Gary, up the lakefront to the Bahai Temple, back to downtown along the lakefront, then the Eisenhower between Midway and O'Hare to Naperville and back south to Clow. DEFINITELY need to keep the eyes on a swivel, and there aren't many good emergency landing fields along the route that you can get to at the altitudes you'll be flying. You're pretty much just above pattern altitude (1700 or so) from the lakefront back to Oak Brook.

I am located inside the TRACON's airspace. I get my clearance pre-printed on note pads as it is always the same regardless of direction flight

N8116B you are cleared to the ______ airport
Upon entering controlled airspace fly heading of 180 and maintain 3000 feet
then radar vectors to (usually EON) then as filed
contact approach on 120.55
squawk 8888

Very rarely will I be able to negotiate a different route. The TRACON dance to the same steps no matter what.

Imagine five planes showing up within a short time period with equipment failure and requesting a no-gyro approaches.
