I think it's some kind of human pre-historic or evolutionary trait. I've got three modestly serious projects I should be fiddling with and I just can't seem to get off the couch and go finish them. The weather is pretty good, I have the materials and tools, but I am just not at all motivated to go get busy.

I've noticed this for the past 4 years or so, and it seems to be only in Jan and Feb. By March or so things get done, and I get caught up with stuff but in dead of winter I just don't want to deal.

Seems like in Oct and Nov I get tons of stuff done, but I look back on winter days and all I did was post on Porsche and POA forums.

Probably evolutionary. Want to do an experiment N=1 go get a mood disorder light and sleep hack light switches. See if energy comes back. Or relax and go with it.

Same thing here, weather is crappy, I'm recovering from the holidays, and I'm a huge college BB fan. So, I spend Jan, Feb, and most of March couch lounging and watching hoops. Once the national championship is over, the weather is mostly good and I'm itching to get outside and do things again.

Seasonal Affective Disorder.

I thought 'laying on the couch' WAS a project. if so, I'm wrapped up in project work! real darn busy.

Well, the sun was shining so I went out and cleaned some leaves out of the pool, and started the pump and skimmer. After all that hard work, I'm back inside with a beer and some roast chicken. Whew, tough day. I gotta go and work on the Porsche though. It's just going to sit there and glare at me in the garage until I fix it.

I'm with ya, for me it's directly related to the length of the day. When the sun is already beginning to set when I get home from work it's pretty easy to just relax whereas when it's still pretty light out at 9 PM i'm mowing the lawn, at the river, cleaning the house, working on my car truck etc.

Not uncommon at all.

It's a function of being a lazy doctor? Life's given you Porsche's and pools and still you find a reason to complain...about your Porsche and pool. Simply amazing.

Agree with Captain here. The more money/material goods one has, the more one seems to be unhappy.

David

Says the guy who is always complaining about lack of good jobs?

Yep. I just so love being unemployed and having to settle for whatever I can get. YAY!!!!!!! Being unhappy. YAY!!!! Lack of job satisfaction. YAY!!!!! Being treated like I am worthless. YAY!!!!!! Losing all my savings and selling off stuff to keep the heat on and food on the table. YAY!!!!!

I am pretty sure I have a valid complaint. Complaining about being lazy is not a valid complaint.

Can you see where I said unhappy? I can't find that. Pretty happy generally, just not motivated much in dead of winter. As for materialism, I guess my stuff makes me happy sometimes, but sometimes in winter I can't swim, nor can I drive a broke car. Seems like that makes me rather - normal.:yesnod:

Aw come on, he's just griping about seasonal dips in energy, don't be so combative.

I vow to get out and work on the car about 9am. I'll put in a good 3-4 hours on it and hope to have good weather. No more mr lazy, I am committed(or should be committed?)!

If that goes well, I'll go wash and wax the wings on the plane in the afternoon. Maybe that's a bit too much, but we'll see.

If I didn't like you so much I'd think you are a jerk!

It seems as you're contradicting yourself. Less money/things = more happy or is it less happy???? I'm confused.

Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Only if you want to make money off it and treat people with it.

Called the "mammalian effect". As day light shortens we go into a kind of hibernation. Vitamin D from the sun is reduced in our bodies triggering the feelings of malaise. Get some sun light on your skin, take vitamin D supplements, exercise, drink lots of water. Fight it.

The "water" part makes sense. Nothing is more effective at getting you off the couch than having to go to the bathroom. I can wait for someone to bring me a beer, but if I have to go to the bathroom, I HAVE to go to the bathroom.

Get out in the sun! Go jogging with your clothes off. That will wake you up.

"Honest your honor! A guy on the internet told me running outside naked would help with my seasonal affective disorder! "

Stop!
You say you were in the Navy so use what they taught you about overcoming adversity and fix yourself.

In the Tank world we have a saying that you should always improve your position. This actually means your battle position but is used in everyday life as well.
