Who's a cruise addict?

Addicted to bare boat sailing. Floating resorts, clogged with kids? Nope. Never been on one, never will. 4 or 5 couples on a 50' catamaran, with the ability to set your own schedule...priceless.

We booked a 4 night Carnival out of Port Canaveral for the last week of January. Hopefully there won't be many kids at that time of the year. This is our first cruise so we decided to go shorter and cheaper in price in case we don't like it.

I think I posted already in this thread but maybe a different one.

We took a "normal" short cruise years ago and it was "alright", but once we forced ourselves to go on a music / band themed cruise that we'd been talking about for years, we will keep doing that regularly, probably forever.

Ten to twelve or more bands, five or six venues, depending on how you count them (a couple of bars used for single or two person acoustic sets, besides four real stages -- hell we had a song in the elevator one night), continuous concerts from about noon until well after midnight...

Couldn't buy tickets for all of those concerts for anywhere near the cost difference between the cruise and the theme cruise...

Plus a couple of hot tubs a few feet from the main on-deck stage if you snag one early. Ha.

Best value in cruising if you like live music.

You still got a balcony cabin though, right?

We had an inside cabin on the Queen Mary 2 from Southampton to NY a few years ago. We figured there's not much to see in the middle of the North Atlantic for six days, and we saved a few shekels. It was quite a different experience from cruises we'd been on. No outside activities to speak of, but lots to do indoors. It was a taste of transatlantic transport of years gone by, and well worthwhile.

Just got back from our family Caribbean cruise. Our third cruise and now we are cruise addicts. We love going on cruises.

Anyone else a frequent cruiser?

We've done three but absolutely love them. I liken it to staying at a Five Star resort that changes locations while you sleep.

My cruise experiences have been somewhat less than 5 star...on the other hand I did get paid for them...

I'll add that we've always done Royal Caribbean and based on our experience we'll be inclined to stay with them.

I've been on Freedom of the Seas. Really nice ships, and our cabin was pretty spacious. RCI and DCL are probably my top 2.

There's always Crystal, but they're out of my price range and normal dinner wardrobe style.

If the ship is near full, it's well worth it.

Hopefully a cruise after the holidays and before spring break won't be too bad. I can deal with small kids, it's the teenagers to early 20's that I'm really starting to hate. We went to an all inclusive to Punta Cana 2 years ago in March. I almost had to beat down a drunk college student at 4:00 AM because he couldn't understand that my room wasn't his.

They seem to be pretty crowded year round down here.

The only "cruise" I've been on is in a boat which held 10 pax and 4 crew. That was interesting, but I've never had the desire to go on a real cruise ship. I'm not much of a luxury resort hotel person though.

I've always considered a cruise ship to be more of a gulag with a casino than a luxury resort.
