Which one is the runway?

So what exactly is the problem with landing on a taxiway? Are there any rules or regs requiring one to land on a runway?

Helicopters depart to and from taxiways as SOP. I guess for heavies the taxiways aren't built to take the landing hit. Otherwise it is just normal stand in line social proof and order keeping everyone using the runway.
