Where to stop overnight near Dallas TX

As part of a long cross country in a few weeks I am planning on stopping overnight near Dallas. Both for fuel and sleep. So my preference generally is a smaller airport with both food and motels within close range. I tend to enjoy historic or somewhat funky spots. And don’t mind up to 100 nm distant from Dallas.

I’m biased towards midway regional by Waxahachie south of Dallas. A long time friend runs the FBO and lots of good folks there...

My preference for an overnight in the DFW area is FTW. About 10 minutes away from the Fort Worth Stockyards.

If so, I'd pick Granbury KGDJ. They have several crew cars, so it's easy to get one overnight. It's a very decent flyover country town, one of the neater ones. I stayed in Hilton (haha -- no, really -- they actually have one).
