Where is Henning..??

Who cares? Probably trying to convert everyone to nuke generated hydrogen.

BTW- saw your Ford engines listed in Kit Planes. Cool!

He wrote a nice reference for me on linked in a couple days ago after I accidentally spammed everyone in my address book.

Hope all is well for him. I miss seeing him on te boards.

Did this reference come from cell #B2134 or did they move him to D block ?:dunno:;):D

I think it came frOm a sat connection from a South American jungle deep inside the FARC compound he's being held in. Just a little kidnapping,. Should be back in a few days.

Now paging a Mr "Hindenberg"... Please pick up the white courtesy phone...:D

Nuke-generated hydrogen could solve all of our energy problems... with the possible exception of airships.

And what's wrong with nuke-generated hydrogen?

That's nothing.
To make ultra-low-sulfur diesel, refineries use hydrogen in the refining process. So, in the refinery I used to be responsible for, they built a hydrogen in the middle of a petrochemical refinery.

Just about every refinery did the same thing..... What could possibly go wrong?

Be much more concerned about hydrogen plants in petro refineries than nuke plants generating hydrogen.
At least in a nuke/hydrogen plant, the nukes and hydrogen plant are only connected by wires. In refineries, they are interconnected.

Maybe he has what they call 'work' ?

Wasn't he running barges on the Delaware river a couple of months ago ?

Henning made a cameo appearance on Duck Dynasty... or was that Dallas.:dunno:

He is either growing a beard or wildcatting for oil with JR's son.

For fixed installations, piped in, nothing.

For vehicles, hydrogen has a very low energy density giving low range. Larger fuel tanks compensate somewhat but they take up space that could otherwise be used for cargo. This was discussed in depth, including comparisons of energy density for different fuels, some time ago on this board, including references.

If you convert the hydrogen to another fuel or adsorb it on something to improve its energy density (lots of people working on this), hydrogen looks a lot better as a mobile fuel.

Henning had the idea that a scuba tank of gaseous hydrogen had enough energy to power a home by combustion, and that was the point of my comment.

If you find out Henning's whereabouts, I suggest you keep it a secret. Certain government operatives may have to kill you if you leak that information.

He should be back soon, and I can tell you that soon after that the B3 Bomber is going to be operational and running lean of peak!

I went to the phones and called an old buddy that I served with on my last post as a member of the National Security Working Group on Port Security and his links thorough NSA revealed this:

Henning is in an underground bunker in Area 51, being upgraded and EMP hardened. This is a normal activity that occurs every few years. :yesnod:

He can hold down a job?? :dunno: :rofl::rofl:
I visited Henning last month and at that time he was "between jobs" but looking for work (as a ship's captain). He said that jobs sometimes come up on a moment's notice and he was ready to jump at any decent offer. Perhaps one "came up".

More time "between jobs" than actually working jobs.

On each of the times I've met with Henning, I concluded that this is the lifestyle he prefers. I think there's a pretty good chance that a 9-5 desk job however well paying, would drive him crazy.

If it works for him...

...it makes me envious!

It'd be a darn short trip...

Pretty true for any of us that choose to make our careers at sea (or in the air for that matter).

:yeahthat: After I got to the point in my career where trying to wheedle some flight time got to be harder and harder, and the time chained to a desk or in endless bureaucratic circle jerks got longer and longer early retirement got a lot more enticing.

Your honesty is refreshing sir.....

Guvmint "endless bureaucratic circle jerks" have ruined a great country and it ain't gettin better..:nonod::mad:

FWIW, he and I have traded comments on Facebook as recently as a few days ago. He's not dead yet.

He would last.....about ninety days.

Wish I could pull that off. Seems like he does that quite successfully. Perhaps there is a lesson in that.

Actually it's quite common in the marine industry. Keep in mind there are no Type Ratings for yachts.

Yes, but you must have the appropriate license for the tonnage you are working on and unless we are talking a little cabin cruiser, it takes quite a bit more time and experience to acquire than a CPL, or even a Type Rating.

After the merchant marine exam, every single FAA written exam and checkride I have taken has been a piece of cake.

Just like in aviation, it's not so much the formal requirement from the goverment that defines what jobs you can get but your resume commanding vessels of similar design & size in a similar area of operation. Also driven by the marine insurers.

Also like aviation it's a small industry and reputations become known easily.
