When was supersonic speeds over land made illegal?

Last sonic boom I heard was in 1992. The space shuttle was landing in Florida and shook my little apartment as it went over.

For a kid growing up in the 60s sonic booms were normal.

I remember hearing the SR-71's booms all the time in the 1980's as they would head up the west coast from Beale to wherever they were going. It was super faint, like a distant thunder clap, but still noticeable. Come to think of it, I don't think I've heard one since then either.

Not even a muffled boom while in the aircraft? Like a champagne cork? :D

Nope, nothing. Most you feel is a little pitching/twitch of the nose as you accelerate/decelerate through M1.0 or thereabouts.....almost imperceptible in the planes I've been supersonic in.
