My American Airlines 777 captain friend, Stan, sent me this picture of a massive thunderstorm they encountered last week enroute at cruise altitude from DFW to ORD. Here's what Stan had to say about it:
ATC: "Hold at Bonham on the 035 radial."
Our response: "Unable"
ATC: "OK, pick any radial."
I asked him how the system indicates "tilt" for the weather radar. He replied:

Stan said:The tilt reference is on the left side on the screen. In this picture it is set to +2. WX+T means weather plus turbulence mode. WXR means precip mode only. VAR means the gain has been adjusted off of neutral.
