When someone ass dials you, how long are you supposed to listen?

Someone whose number I don't recognize just dialed me.
Clearly this is unknown to them and I can hear them in their car.

How long is is expected / customary / appropriate to continue listening to the caller on the other end of the phone when they ass dial you?
 
I hang up immediately after realizing I got ass phoned.
 
And then if it is like a 2 fer tuesday and they play another song by that band?

I think if someone ass dialed me during mandatory Metallica, I might just be in for the long haul.

I'll usually hang on for a while, because sometimes the audio is pretty amusing. If I get a good one at work, often I put the phone on speaker for my co-workers to enjoy!
 
If there's anything interesting going, listen as long as you can. If it's boring hang up.
 
Until you know that they haven't been kidnapped and are locked into a car with a crazed psychopath.
 
Hunt them down and demand they reimburse you for the minutes on your cell phone they cost you. Rage at them about their inconsideration and lack of respect for your valuable time.

Listen until you determine that it is not an emergency call for help, or until you determine that there is nothing going on that you can use to blackmail them with later.
 
I believe the big question would be... How much free time do you have?

Exactly. I had this in reverse back when I still carried a Palm Treo. Butt dialed my (now former) sister in law, who's a psychologist. 0100L. I was on the AOA "re-educating" TSA as to what their actual role is here at LAX (which differed somewhat than their perception). She listened for almost a half hour. Called me the next day to laugh - and suggest that I seek help with my anger management issues.........

I am in my car a lot and I tend to sing.
I doubt anyone would stick around for long.
 
Long enough to hear what name your soon-to-be-ex starts calling out during the encounter which produced said phone call. Bonus points for being able to start the call recorder app for the ensuing divorce negotiations.
 
Back when I had a land line with caller ID, if someone I didn't like butt dialed me (like my boss), I'd just put it on mute, set the phone down and let his minutes add up. I'd hang the phone up when I heard the fast busy. It was a bonus if he was paying roaming charges at the time.

Never heard anyone complain.
 
Long enough to determine if they are having sex..... and to get a recording of it to play at work the next day or the next time he is with his girlfriend.
 
An employee butt-dialed me twice... 'listened too long.
Once, it was while he and his wife, both drunk beyond belief, were physically fighting. Barely able to walk, it was an interesting 5 minutes. I listened in case I witnessed a murder.
Second time, it was during a fight in the park. Both shlardo drunk. He's walking around the car breaking off mirrors, while she's locked inside. Next thing, I hear "ON YOUR KNEES, GET ON YOUR KNEES!". You guessed it, the cops. After he's cuffed and sitting in the back seat, it was interesting to hear him call her over, and go through the "baby, baby, I love you, don't press charges" routine.
I asked him to remove me from speed-dial. They eventually divorced. Duh.

Note down the number, put them on hold, dial 911, give them the number and conference them in on the emergency call. If they are e911 equipped, they may be able to pull up tracking information. That may not help much in unpoliced areas like some major cities, I know out where I live the sherifs dept. follows up on things like hangup calls.
