When did emergency exits start

If you don't get an answer here also ask your question at this link
http://www.ipl.org/

I have tried a few public and subscription databases. So far I am not finding your answer.

Only thing turned up so far is

"An emergency chute that inflates rapidly and permits crew and passengers a quick exit from the aircraft. Also called an escape chute. See escape hatch."

escape slide. (2004). In An Illustrated Dictionary of Aviation. Retrieved from http://www.credoreference.com/entry/ida/escape_slide

Which is not helpful
