This is too dang hot. Even for this area. Tomorrow showing even worse.

Starting to take serious consideration to make my production staff start at 5:00am and then end their day around 2:00.

If the walk-in customers complain about not getting their item right away, I'll just ask if they want to go work under or in a car in this heat to pull their part. A no answer is assured and I say, "Well, neither do my employees and I am not about to endanger their health."

Already had one employee require EMS attention due to heat stress. Scary event that no one wants to repeat.

106 isn't bad. Last year Phoenix set a record for the most days over 114 degrees. I spent most of that time inside the wing of a C-130 sealing fuel cells.

I've had more fun doing other things.

Even if you do close early, it might be a good idea to keep some bottles of cold water ready, in case any employees start feeling loopy, or even just to have it available for them...just a suggestion.
That kind of heat can really creep up on you if you aren't paying attention.

Arizona moved to missouri a long time ago! I lost track of how many days over 100 we've had. A dozen at least...and probably 20 or more.

And exactly why we spend most of the summer somewhere else.

We will still be open or normal hours for the sales and office teams. I just need to protect the production crew who dismantle the vehicles and pull parts from the bone yard.

In addition to the water, I'm going to mandate a 10 minute cool down in the air conditioning ever 90 minutes.

"you'd think it was a 120 degrees out, can't be more than 114!"

now can it feel like 107 with 22% humidity?

The dew point is only 41. . . .

Does it cool off at night? I recall looking at old Phoenix newspapers and see that in the 1930's it used to cool off to the low 70's and high 60's at night in summer - but now with all the asphalt and concrete is does not get below 85-90 any more - but out there in God's country, Mike, it should still cool off a little it???

Plus, 41 is pretty low dew point for that part of Texas - you are definitely getting air sourced over the desert and not the Gulf. . .

Rangers vs Angels tonight.

First pitch 106F

Seventh 95F

Ninth 92F

Want my tickets?

The devil had a choice between texas and hell. Texas is too hot for him.
I've been in AZ during the last two summers. This summer was in colorado. Next year I'm going back to AZ because this heat is idiotic.

Where? We spent last week in Aspen, highs in the 80's.

Landing in Sea-Tac next Tuesday for two weeks of driving and visiting in Washington, Oregon and BC, Making a a loop north through Victoria to end in Whistler and a loop south down the Oregon coast from Lincoln Citycoast and over to Bend Redmond area.

You guys just live in the wrong part of the country. :D

Aspen is halfway to the moon.
Try the front range sometime. 95F, intense sun, concrete everywhere, no wind, no extensive cool forest anywhere to cool the air down.

NWS tonight says August will be hotter than average over all the U.S. this year -- except for Four Corners and further southwest of there.

"Normal" 100F+ there. ;)

Interestingly, we're above average and expected to stay that way on the Western Slope, and the Denver and Front Range is running right on average now -- after rains showed up in the last month or so and we stopped trying to burn the State down. Pretty nice now.

Midwest is in a drought though. Bad.

Tell me about it. I've got a good size construction project going on in the Bryan/College station area.

Productivity goes way down, and safety issues go way up. We are laying a bunch of asphalt today, I really feel sorry for those guys.

In which case the fix is dog-simple. Get in your car and head west on HW 24. Don't stop until the weather is pleasant.

Not enough. Here is what we use for outdoor work in the desert.

We get the flag notices every morning by e-mail (today is yellow by 2PM, 1 qt water per hour). Maybe there is a website from a nearby Federal site you can use?

It's expensive. Cost can be partially mitigated by earlier hours, as you've already suggested.

It's times like these that i love the big blue air conditioner that's 10 miles to the west of me. ;)

How are you going to Victoria? Up I-5, or car ferry from Port Angeles?

I'll be there first couple weeks of September (originally from the Pacific NW), and we'll visit Victoria too, but are planning to take the Seattle Clipper as a day trip to see Butchart Gardens, though a Kenmore Air float plane flight up would be WAY more fun, and is still a possibility.

Thanks for the heads-up, we'll look into some of that too. We were there with little kids in a camper 40 years ago but didn't see everything due to constraints and conflicts. Current plan is to take the PA car ferry but I have some concerns about whether that makes sense.

we've gotta be pushing 30 100+ days here so far. the soaring has been great but it sucks being outside on the ground!

The PA car ferry is where I was hoping you were headed; because if you're in Port A (the non-TX Port A!), you should really check out Hurricane Ridge while you're there... the entrance to this Olympic National Park is right there in PA, and the drive and view are incredible. Plan 3-4 hours RT, more if you want to do some of the short but beautiful vista walking trails at the top.

Highway 24? It's deep in the prohibited area on my map. I don't do warzones. Highway 285 or 50 or even I40 will do though... Dang jobs and no winning lottery tickets.

I feel your pain. 107F here.
