whats your threshold on using flight following?

You didn't say anything about the radios, only flight following.

I find leaving the radios on, even guard, makes it hard to really relax. Sometimes the there is so much chatter I have to read for an hour or so before I can grab a little cat nap.

If I feel the need to talk to someone I file IFR. Only used flight following a couple of time in last 30 years.
