Whats with pilots on Long Island?

I can't speak for Nassau county, but neighboring Suffolk on Long Island has a police aviation division. They have nothing to do with enforcing aviation rules, but they are cops who fly the helicopter, do search and rescue and aeromedical transports.

The tower at Republic probably has a direct line to the police unit based there, and it's easier to call them than a 911 dispatcher.

Just a guess.

Is there any other evidence that the hundreds of other pilots on long island are reckless?

Yes, I read it on the internet:rofl:

Sure the vast majority are competent I'm sure, just seems to be that this guy and the Rajahhhhh guy stood out.

That's exactly what I was thinking Adam, about the guy who landed on Rockaway Beach last year. I keep waiting for some journalist to do any kind of follow-up on this guy. It was a huge story at the time...but nothing since.

For those who missed the story, here's a good summary:

And even better, listen to the audio:

Oh, and he lived in Cornwall, in the Hudson Valley, so not really a Long Island pilot.

Nassau has an air unit. I think 2 Helos. They cover all areas, crime, search and rescue for maritime assistance. Nassau pd is one of the most sought after jobs in the country, the air unit is even more.
Now for long island pilots, don't put us in the class of the,one idiot,,just plain stupid dumba&$.

And the kid that landed at rock away, he was some little snotty rich kid!
