So I'm looking at my favorite porn site, controller.com, and came across a nice looking Comanche 250 with this panel:
http://media.sandhills.com/img.axd?...6T9RS2O9p6F3HLs2Zt2d2rb/8TuK5cXPGRdi+r4UMOrCc

What is that slide rule looking thingy across the glareshield? I'm sure I'll feel like an idiot once I get the answer, but for the life of me I can't figure this out.

If you're curious, the entire ad for the Comanche is here:

He just flew into KVNY and he was 156th for landing on 34L?

Hahaha! Could very well be!

Maybe it's some altitude reminder contraption? The slider on the left is for thousands of feet, and the one on the right for hundreds? :dunno:

I'd believe it was an altitude reminder - cruise, approach mins, missed approach, I don't know.

Yep, my guess is an altitude reminder for Forrest.

It is an altitude reminder. Just don't do math with it. ;)

That's actually more useful than what I was expecting this thread to be about - the silly alphabet device to remember which ATIS code you just heard.

This one in my rental?

I fly with a note pad on my knee board. Note details from ATIS and code, heading and altitude assigned. Why a rotary switch with alpha codes way over on the other side?

Well, at least in my rental 150's case, having to reach for something "way over on the other side" is reserved for T-Rex (if he could fit in the left seat without exceeding W&B ).

I'm surprised I haven't seen that one in a Sportys catalog. Or maybe it is an older model of what they sell now.

that comanche is for sale at my home airport. It is REALLY NICE!!! Has all the speed mods too.

It doesn't have the biggest speed mod though - tip tanks.

That looks like a nice airplane.
Is it within the POA rules to comment on it?
Is the price reasonable? (considering 2100 hrs SMOH)
Any idea what cruise speed to expect?
I am not familiar with the Century 2000 AP (or any AP for that matter, but I do want one).
Any other honest comments?

Don't know much about them. Was talking to the guy selling it, he was listing all kinds of speed mods and trick stuff done to the plane.

I can ask, If you want good info on it call the number listed. His name is Bob, Real nice guy and not a pushy salesman. He loves to talk about airplanes. Tell him Tim with the stinson said to call.
If I am not mistaking the guy that owned it died. Thats the reason for the sale. It really is a cream puff of an airplane. CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN!!! Yes motor has the hours but from what I am told it flies and runs perfect.

I'd call, but at this point I would just be a tire kicker. Selling a plane is tough enough without everyone with a passing interest calling. I will do a little more research and discuss options with my wife and if we get serious about it, then I will call. My biggest problem with it is that I just don't like that single door access. But everything is a compromise in one way or another.

But for around $100k this could be a nicely tricked out airplane with a new engine.

Standard tanks - you have about 2:45 legal IFR flying. With tip tanks, my 2:45 just went to a little over 5 hours. Now, you want to make a flight that will take 3:30. With standard tanks, you have to descend, stop, refuel and ascend. Adds at least 30 minutes to your flight time - probably more like an hour.

So, that 3:30 flight just became 4:30, meanwhile I'm already there while you still have an hour to go. That's why it's the biggest speed mod - and the very first thing I added to my plane.

Oh, and there is no way in hell I would ever pay anywhere close to what is being asked for that plane. It's a $50k plane maybe $55k.

Interesting... I have no idea what that is, but I sure like the Comanche.

its on 15 6, and the alt reads 1540. maybe its a field elevation reminder

Its a little far, but I would look at EdFred's 250 he has for sale. http://webpages.charter.net/edfred/comanche/
At the very least. so I could stop trying to make the numbers work for me. LOL

Hi: She is the best Comanche I have ever seen! And I have seen many. The slide indicator must be a number holder/ minder. There are several modifications that were done by an aeronautical engineer. By the way - running full consistent power (with no logic) gives you 5 hours of flight at VNE (Upgraded VNE not the old VNE). I like 65%, much longer airplane life, and who needs to stay seated over 7 hours! From here to the other side of Texas on less than 90 gallons of fuel!

She's worth every dime their asking.

How does 56 gal usable at 16gph = 5 hours?

 I have never seen a Comanche 250 that would make Vne in level flight. Did the 'new' Vne get reduced to 160?
