What do you pay at your FBO or club?

Mitchellville, MD
Freeway Airport, (W00)

C172:I pay $184 wet with CFI, $131/$117 wet

non-block/block

Cheapest plane here is a 152 for 95/85.50 wet with a 162 for $5 more

Just wanted to know if the hangar talk I had with an ATP* is true. He said he built time in the midwest for about $80/hr wet at various FBO's.

*Worth noting that he's in his late 20's

Couldn't vote :(

$65.5 wet for a C152. $55 monthly dues. $45 instructor.

Westosha Airport, Wimot WI (5K6)

In order to have some point of reference you really should put down at least a year. A 30 year 172 rents for a much different price then a 1 year old one. BTW 53 a hour for a CFI does seem a bit high

Montgomery County Airpark

Gaithersburg, MD (KGAI)

$180 per hour wet with instruction on a Cessna 172

What should those of us who own put down for our costs? :)

As an owner I figure my fixed costs are about $7000/year (hangar, insurance, annual), and then about $60/hour for fuel/oil/reserve.

2003 Warrior III: $85/hr wet + $5/hr fuel surcharge

At KORL, KISM, KDAB, KCRG, KHEG and KLAL you can rent a C172SP for $125-145 wet.
These are all airports located in North and Central Florida.
That is normally with either the Nav II instruments or G1000.

http://www.aandmaviation.com/rates.php
$95/tach hr wet for a '46 Champ 7AC
$128/tach hr wet for a '81 172 going up to $153 for a '06 G1000 172
$184/tach hr wet for a '99 182
Helicopter and 310 are more expensive yet.

The equipment is well maintained, and the prices are pretty good for the metropolitan area.

Instructor between $46 and $53, depending on the rating being worked on.

Some places are still below your chart, the Cessna 150 my wife rents is $60/hr (That's wet) and $35 for an instructor... She's taking her lessons in the Cezzna because its a financial wash (or maybe even gain considering MX and insurance increase) over flying my Cherokee and I get to go putt around by myself or with my CFII while she's taking lessons.

BTW.: Should anyone want to knock out a PPL on the cheap, this would be the place to do it.

Between 95-120 an hour wet for 172N's
155 an hour wet for a 1979 182RG
230 an hour wet for a SR22 (non turbo)
30 per month in dues (without that add 15 per hour to the above)
45 per hour for a CFI

I haven't rented the SR-22, just putting it here for reference. :)

I pay between $137-$145/hr for a 172SP wet through a local flight school.

I pay $55/hr dry on the rare chance I get to use a friends 172N

$147 per flight hour wet for a 2006 G1000 DA40
$143 per tach hour wet for a 1971 C182 with G430W/S-TEC 50/GPSS
$119 per tach hour wet for a 1977 Archer with GX55
$180 per month, which includes the first $50 of flying that month.

Availability is excellent, and we do have shares available... ;)

How about $25/hour dry, or $22.50/hour dry, for an IFR-equipped 1976 72, billed on TACH time? That's a great rate, even when you factor in the fixed dues ($250/quarter), if you fly very much at all.

My brother just committed to joining this club in Kansas City.

Leesburg, (JYO):

$160/hr for DA40 G1000
$155/hr for 172S/G1000
$150/hr for 172S/steam

Cessna 172 $145 per hour wet
Cessna 182 $179 per hour wet
Twin $315 per hour wet

Wings Field - Advanced Aircraft

Cirrus SR20 Avidyne - 184.99 + 14.99 FS = 199.98
Cirrus SR20 Garmin - 194.99 + 14.99 FS = 209.98
Cirrus SR22 Avidyne - 249.99 + 17.99 FS = 267.98
Cirrus Turbo SR22 Avidyne - 264.99 + 19.99 FS = 284.98

Cessna 172SP's (three of them 2000-2003) 139.99 + 12.99 FS = 152.98
Piper Archer III - 139.99 + 12.99 FS = 152.98

*FS = Fuel Surcharge
(not including taxes)

Drives me nuts, just show to total wet rental rate including the surcharge.

Instructor rates are:
Primary 54.99
Instrument 59.99
Cirrus 64.99

Rates for instructors and planes went up after Advanced Aircraft took over last October from Montgomery County Aviation.

I'm on the hunt for other solutions. DYL has C152 for $80, C172M-VFR for $95 and C172N-IFR $105, and a Diamond DA-10 for $100.

We've had several threads like this since the boards (red and blue) started; would be interesting to see the rates for like-type aircraft plotted over time, if somebody was ambitious enough to do that research! Plot a line for 100LL price, too, and the dollar with inflation figured in.

Yeah, I would be more interested in seeing it in terms of ratio of typical pilot hourly wage to hourly cost on the aircraft. Dollar values are so incredibly fake... it's really about "How many hours do you have to work for one flight hour of enjoyment?" Or, as my dad puts it, the fun/dollar ratio. :)

When I got my retread I paid $78 wet for a ... um... well seasoned... Cessna 150

But now that I own, the fixed costs are, um, hangar, insurance, and, um. Never mind, I don't want to know. I hope my wife never finds out.

So if I ignore the "reserve" (I plan to sell before the motor blows up :) ) my hourly cost is for the gas which is up to $3.48/ gallon at the corner gas station times 4 or 5. So I fly pretty cheap.

Sounds like a new poll,... for me, it would be 8hrs : 1hr (solo rental no CFI) ,.... if I solely put my $ to flying and rode my bicycle to the airport.

Factor in the 3 kids, bills, etc as a single income family, and the ratio is actually more like 90 hrs : 1 hr,.. .then I still have to find the time to get to the airport for that 1 hr

That'd be cool, but... How in the heck do you quantify a "typical pilot hourly wage"? I presume you mean how much us non-professional pilots make in our "real work". That's all over the place, and highly dependent on geographic location, age, education and type of employment, among other factors.

Also, "other obligations" come into play. I may make a lot more as a National IT Solutions Architect for a major player in the data protection industry than does a kid who works as a janitor, but if the kid is living at home and his parents pay all the bills, he may still have more "fun/dollar ratio" than I do, supporting a house and a 7-person household with 2 kids in college.

I'm de-railing the thread topic, sorry; we can take this to a different topic if we really want to pursue it.

They just raised the prices of 172 in KFLG - its now 115$ hour wet
CFI/I is now 40$

It used to be a really good deal, now its just - pretty good deal, I think.

The price is for a 30-35 year old 172. They also have a 2008 with G1000 & SV for $159/wet

http://flyadvanced.com/fly-our-fleet/
DYL has C152 for $80, C172M-VFR for $95 and C172N-IFR $105

I fly the M model for $131 and if I get lucky, the M's will be out or in the shop and I get the 172N with a current GPS database and IFR certified for the same $131. Thats a HUGE savings over 40-70 hours.

Not to mention CFI's being cheaper there!
