At the Wings Fly-BQ I heard people talking about websites they use for navigation, weather, getting plats, and so on. I was thinking we should start a list of sites that people use. Maybe we can add tricks to the electronic flight bag. Also any programs you use with your Phone, PC, yes also the i:rolleyes:

I use AOPAs planner for the general route and then get all my weather from ADDS and get NOTAMs from https://pilotweb.nas.faa.gov/distribution/atcscc.html
What he said...

But, I still get a report by voice from a briefer. That way, I know my voice has been recorded when I obtain weather, inquire of particular issues and of NOTAMs beyond the standard briefing and notifications. In the end, it's a CMA I don't trust the web records to provide.

Now, if FSS can just get back up to par.

Get a breifing from DUAT and they can check the server to see if you logged in or not. I haven't called FSS since October.

I realize it's logged... I'm still not up to trusting a computer to save my butt. So, a backup on voice is a good move. Besides, when it's presented to me on the computer it's entirely on me to seek out every bit of data. While I try to catch every NOTAM for a particular point of interest, it's easy to miss one.

Sometimes, things don't update right away, particularly new notices. By the time I make a third inquiry with the briefer, that should be enough to bring anything to the surface.

i use

usairnet.com
aviationweather.gov
drjack.info for soaring forecasts
aeroplanner.com for flight planning

Since I moved up here I've moved away from using commercial online resources so much. FSS is still FAA up here. So I use the National Weather Service Alaska aviation page for weather, and still use paper charts and my Garmin 296 for flight planning, and file with FSS for every flight because the briefer has much better information than DUATS.

wunderground.com

In addition to duat/duats and ADDS

http://www.fltplan.com and ADDS.

Fltplan.com is very user friendly and is widely used by many corporate/fractional/charter pilots to file flight plans, receive weather and notams. I use it all the time to get a good estimated flight plan and to file IFR flight plans for my dad when a trip pops up and the flight follower he calls at his company is a complete dingbat and has no clue how to file.

I used to call FSS for briefings, but I can get much more information a whole lot faster right from fltplan.com

For longer range planning, I use http://www.usairnet.com/ which gives you a graphical TAF type of thing three days out that's usually pretty accurate, and I also use a homebrew site my CFII whipped up:

Closer in, I get most of the data from http://adds.aviationweather.gov/ because just about everything is there.

I also use Pilot My-Cast on my phone, it's a VERY handy little tool. I even managed to get radar on it in flight on the way to Wings. (Don't count on this, it rarely works in flight!)

I like fltplan.com too. One nice, recently developed, feature is that if you check back later after filing your flight plan it will show your assigned ATC clearance.

I also use the online version of WSI for weather, but this is a paid subscription provided by the company and I don't know how much it costs.

Great posts guys.

Chuck,

This should be a Sticky.
