What kind of traffic, other than ADS-OUT, can stratus II receive?

thanks. so there's no point in buying a stratus if the transponder in the airplane does not have ads-b out capability?

Sure, you will see traffic near other ADS-B out capable aircraft.

Don't you have to essentially be flying formation with them?

No, you will see traffic near them even if they are miles away...

Or, did you want to see traffic around you? ;)

It is what it is, it has limitations, just like TIS did.

Understand those limitations and realize that ADS-B will be much more useful if you are ADS-Out capable, or if you just wait longer and the guy near you is. Either way, if the coming at you doesn't have a transponder, it won't matter much.

You're forgetting the weather features, which is one part that makes the total package worth it.

The Stratus 2 offers many benefits other than traffic including the ADS-B weather, a WAAS external GPS, and an AHRS. The traffic feature is limited without the aircraft being equipped with ADS-B Out and will miss most relevant traffic as will all ADS-B portable receivers. With ADS-B Out installed in the aircraft, the traffic gives one a very good picture of traffic, within the limitations of the ADS-B system.
